Pros

Only positive is that they pay on time.

Cons

The owner is an egocentric maniac who belittles his employees at any interaction available. The company has a powerful mission statement with core values which are just words in print, no one lives out any of them nor can anyone recall them from memory. The entire management and executive team are made up of people with the last name of Spencer. Anyone else has been terminated and or demoted at a rapid pace. A previous poster acknowledged this as well. It is a shame that the expectations for sales are so high with the compensation offered so low. Most importantly the lack of support along with the constant changes of managers makes it difficult to have any impact. Sales have seen 4+ Sales Directors and even more Sales Managers in less than 3 years which is a big problem. In addition market, share and revenue have declined over the years and that causes frustration for the owner who takes this out on his employee staff with verbal assaults because all he knows is how to yell and point the finger. You’ll hear things like “any monkey can do this job”. The lack of smiles on office staff should be the first warning, followed by the poorly managed and landscaped grounds and dirty offices inside, this should all be an immediate and direct reflection on the lack of care management has for its staff. In the summer, thermostats are set to 78 degrees because we are told running the AC is expensive! They lock the thermostats up so no one can adjust them. It’s like a prison! RUN from this place!

We are sorry you did not find Perma-Seal to be a good fit for you. We strive to be approachable, available and solicitous of feedback as we know that is what makes us better. We seek feedback regularly, in many different ways, for help with our efforts to build a stronger culture; to be part of the solution. That being said, we have a tribe filled with compassionate and caring people. It’s upsetting that one of our former members didn’t see all of the great things that are happening every day. Compensation opportunities in our sales department have never been more plentiful. Between commission, additional bonus levels and monthly contests, our consultants can not only meet but exceed their personal income goals. We provide the opportunity, the strong brand, the leads, the training and the tools, but then it’s up to the individual to take responsibility for their success. We regularly celebrate our individual and team wins! We are proud to be a family-owned business and encourage our Tribal Members’ families to join us as well! The fact is there are three family members of six total that comprise our senior leadership team and right or wrong, they are held to a much higher standard than others. What’s important isn’t their last name, but rather that they are talented, dedicated and passionate men and women who want to improve the lives of our Tribal Members and our customers. Our Next Level Leadership Team is filled with people that are truly invested in making a difference in the lives of their co-workers as well as our customers. We continue to grow stronger and expand, as is evidenced by our overflowing parking lot and record-breaking year. That being said, Perma-Seal is not for everyone! We do not apologize for setting high standards as our internal and external customers deserve the very best. We work hard…seriously, because our purpose is to make the world a better place. That is why we continue to be Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana’s leader in providing dry basements and healthy homes.

Pros

There is potential to make money when the weather is bad and the storms are rolling in.

Cons

Employees are not cared about or respected. It is all about the bottom-line. The COO is the CEOs wife. She used to work in the call center and married him and got a nice promotion. No management or business sense. Sales meetings are a joke. They highlight the top 2 or 3 guys and the rest of the time is spent tellig everyone else how poorly they are doing and how they dont use the "proven" system. When it's busy, don't plan on seeing your family or dare requesting a day off. Bad news!

There are several schools of thought when it comes to responding to social posts, you certainly don’t want to appear to be defensive or argumentative. So what is one supposed to do when presented with a post that is riddled with false information? That’s easy…take the opportunity to paint a clear picture of what it’s like to be part of our Tribe! Are we perfect? Nope! We are a Tribe filled with human beings striving to be better every day. Compensation opportunities in our sales department have never been more plentiful – between commission, additional bonus levels and monthly contests our consultants can not only meet but exceed their personal income goals. We provide the opportunity, the strong brand, the leads, the training and the tools, but then it’s up to the individual to take responsibility for their success. Personal accountability is a tenet throughout our tribe. Sales meetings and webinars are filled with accolades, product training, peer-to-peer recognition, skill improvement and yes, even donuts. Leadership is involved in department meetings because they are compassionate and appreciate our Tribal Members, and want them to feel supported and heard. We were awarded the Top Places to Work from the Chicago Tribune a few years ago, yet we continue daily to seek ways that will make Perma-Seal the employer of choice! We are a transparent organization and do what we say we will do. Our doors are not only open but you will find leaders actively seeking feedback and ideas for improvement on a daily basis. Our Tribal Members are encouraged to come with solutions, not problems. We want their thoughts and experience, not just their hands. We practice servant leadership and act with urgency to serve our internal and external customer needs and wants. All that being said, Perma-Seal is not for everyone! Don’t mistake the love we have for our Tribal Members with weakness. We will not apologize for setting high standards. Everyone in our Tribe puts in long hours when our customers are counting on us to help them. We work hard…seriously, because our purpose is to make the world a better place. That is why we continue to be Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana’s leader in providing dry basements and healthy homes.

Pros

You get free t-shirts that will ultimately go to Goodwill when this company derails your career

Cons

In my first interview, I was told that Perma-Seal is not for everyone. I should have thanked them for their time and left at that moment. It is not for everyone - specifically if you do not buy into their "tribe" culture. I always thought the customer comes first. That is not the case at Perma-Seal. They drill into your head that you are part of a "tribe". A tribe is a group of people that looks out for their own. This tribe only cares about their senior leadership and pointing fingers at new employees for failed/outdated business practices. They preach coaching, they preach they will do everything they can to ensure an employee is successful. In my time there I saw a director and manager fired after two months on the job. There is no traction with the revolving door of employees. If you want an outside look at Perma-Seal, simply watch an episode of The Office. At least Michael Scott could run a branch. Senior leadership is too busy bashing skulls with the tribe mantra and traveling all over Africa on a company sponsored "Speaking tour". They say Make the World a Better Place. Best advice I could give would be to make your little business a better place and move up from there.

You are so right, being a Sales Consultant for Perma-Seal is definitely not for everyone. We strive mightily to do our best during the interview process to explain the commitment, work ethic and desire to learn needed to be successful as our customers count on that from our company. We will be looking at the process even harder to see if we can do a better job to help future candidates. We are honored and proud that our President was invited to speak on behalf of Conscious Capitalism to budding entreprenuers in Africa, Sri Lanka and Greece and he also volunteered his time to do so for many local Chicagoland organizations (and he paid for it all himself!). It’s a great example of how we make the world a better place for our Tribal Members, our Customers, our Partners and the Community at large. We wish you the best in your future endeavors!
