Good Pay, Bad Culture

Pros

Pay (if you bonus), not expected to work weekends, off major holidays. It is a great starting position to learn and grow in the construction industry. You will be so involved with the build process and customer service, you will be able to transition to another field with ease. For the most part your coworkers and sales staff are good to work with it.

Cons

Old school culture hidden behind progressive words. Profits are greater than People. A "Yes Man" mentality throughout upper management. Those who remain, remain because they are paid well and keep their mouth shut, not because they want to be there. You would be surprised the how negatively staff speaks of the company in the field. Not willing to modernize and accept the reality of housing market. Wants to pay trades like Lennar but sell like Toll Brothers. Company does not lay off, they terminate, and they'll find a reason if you're not in the inner circle. When we get past this housing crisis, they will be the only builder in America with "0 layoffs"

Poor leadership

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Relatively good on the resume

Cons

Poor leadership, especially some of the newer (Division Presidents), use profanity and very condescending behaviour towards the sales professionals unless you are one of their favourites. Top management is aware of these behaviours and okay with it, even if it reaches the company president who favours some sales people more than others. Favourite people are to be in single sales offices, who could have personal relationships with top executives or friendships. These people are only the top earners; the rest are barely making any money.

Pros

For a construction manager at the entry level, the pay is good if you are bonusing. Even base "guaranteed" pay is pretty good. My team members were great. Enjoyed working with almost everyone I came across and I learned a lot about new home construction. Perry values customer service above all else.

Cons

The way the company goes about layoffs is very shady. You have zero notice whatsoever, no inkling. My most recent performance review was satisfactory. Company just over hired.
