Blunt Objective Review Of Company

Pros

Flexibility with schedules and onsite gym at home office.

Cons

I left the organization on good terms so here is as objective as a review as you will get. First and foremost this is a marketing firm. Underwriters are not valued, do not call the shots and are not compensated appropriately. PHLY is notorious for overworking and underpaying their employees. Senior management will attempt to sell you on your "trajectory" within the organization but they fail to deliver on their promise many times. Even if you were to move up the ranks quickly, you will always be under-compensated in comparison to the rest of the marketplace for whatever title you hold. Senior management does not value it's employees. Their bonuses are tied to staying below budgets so they do whatever they can to keep your compensation as low as possible. Throughout my time with the organization it has grown horizontally quite a bit. There is an over abundance of managers and not nearly enough worker bees. In my final 12 months with the organization my department saw almost a 40% turnover rate. The individuals that left were all experienced and knowledgeable and in typical PHLY fashion more work got piled on to the rest of thee underwriting team and several underwriting trainees were hired to fill the void. Senior management has advised that they have problems hiring experienced talent so this trend is likely to continue into the future. The organization's training program for new hires and continued education for experienced employees is essentially nonexistent. Even if training was offered employees would not be able to attend due to extremely high workloads. The company is more worried about hiring people to process rather than to truly underwrite risks. There is minimal agency relationships as the company does not have appointed agents. If you are the type to ask questions and areas for improvement, senior management will view you as a threat and your "trajectory" within the company will be nonexistent. I would not recommend this company to anyone whether friend or foe. Unless the company were to blow you away with a compensation package, steer clear.

Pros

My coworkers are generally pleasant to be around and always have work for me to do. I am an intern in a data entry position which can be tedious as it is a lot of menial tasks. Work life balance is okay but I don't know about salaried positions.

Cons

The office culture tends to be very clique-y. There is a high emphasis on working out and going to the gym.
