Pros

Philips is full of great benefits and great people. There is an emphasis on a work-life balance, and it's well shared across the company. Obviously you might be stuck with a manager that does not share this mindset, but for the team I am on, and for the people I talk to (both in Nashville and around the US/Globe) it is a recurring theme. There is also a strong focus on the end user, which is typically a patient. They do their best to drive the point home that the work you do will likely aid in saving someone's life, or aiding in their care.

Cons

The ship is slow to steer. There are some highly ambitious individuals here, but I've seen some ideas get stomped out, not because of manager's or a culture that stifles innovation, but rather the amount of red tape that exists. It should be noted that this is likely exacerbated in my current role, but felt it should be mentioned. The data and tech literacy of the company is quite low. If you are looking to do analytics or want to work with data there will be a lot of hair pulling involved while getting said data, as well as communicating its worth.

Thank you for taking the time to reflect upon your time at Philips so far, as well as supporting us in our mission. We appreciate the feedback, as it will help us in improving upon our current work structure. It's unfortunate to see that you feel that it hasn't been optimal for you. Know that this won't go unnoticed: our upper management is active on Glassdoor as well, and are monitoring all reviews. Thanks again for being onboard, and we wish you all the best in your Philips career.

Pros

Working here means you're working on products that improve the lives of real people. It's very satisfying to hear about someone benefitting from something you worked on or to see someone using a device out in the real world. The pay and benefits are good and the majority of your colleagues are great people who want to do great things to help others. I enjoyed working with the people on my team every day. You have the potential to move around within the global Philips organization, though this is limited by available openings at any given time. My manager was great.

Cons

While you're working on devices that improve people's lives, you're not really working on anything new/exciting. You're either working on maintaining existing products or developing "new products." New product development is pressured to reuse what was done in the past, and is largely driven by reaction to what competitors release instead of trying to get out ahead. Even after COVID, remote work is frowned upon and your career advancement opportunities are severely limited if you are a remote worker. Change is seen as bad and will meet strong resistance in favor of "doing it like we've always done it." They want to attract new talent but insist on using dated methods. Portions of the organization are very much a "good old boys" club that will not hesitate to blame others to advance their own interest. Constantly fighting fires and changing priorities. Communication is terrible with leaders in different parts of the organization delivering different, sometimes conflicting messages about any given topic. Communications are usually full of business buzzwords and a message of improvement but there's never any substance or action behind the message.
