'We're a Family' ... with all the drama.

Pros

The office itself is very nice, nice open floorplan and ping pong tables in the spacious downstairs kitchen. On the whole your fellow employees will be good friendly people. They like to celebrate a lot, so there is lots of pizza, cake and donuts, if you enjoy that. Good resume builder, if you need it. Just don't stick around too long and you'll likely escape unscathed.

Cons

Pay scale is not industry competitive unless you're hired directly into one of the top positions. Job position and responsibility can and will be changed without notice to or input from the employee. Both owners are very prone to micromanagement and a inability to delegate responsibility. In particular, the owner responsible for the business management side is rarely in the office, on average 3 days a week for less than 5 hours a day. It can be very hard to get projects and tasks moved forward for lack of, very much required, executive approval but, any delays are always the fault of the employee. Any mention of inaccessibility of or inability to obtain a concrete decisions from management is angrily dismissed. Get all your instructions written or confirmed via email because recollection is subject to change, very CYA environment. Don't expect any input that isn't directly in line with management's to be heard or even appreciated, nodding heads encouraged. Speaking to the review title, they like to claim a 'Family Environment' which is really an excuse to play favorites and treat their employees like misbehaving children when they are unhappy. Displeasure on the part of management is often conveyed with condescension and downright insults, rather than productive criticism. It is a painfully unprofessional management environment.

Pros

Working at PhotoBiz was like having a family. Everyone is very close and the atmosphere was fun and productive. I was with the company when it was very small and watched it grow and expand into a successful business. You work with a wonderful group of highly intelligent human beings who love their work, rock and roll, ping pong and making each other laugh. For me, the hardest part about leaving was leaving my coworkers behind.

Cons

With all small businesses there are growing pains, this is understandable. However, there is a tendency to make what seem like quick decisions in making changes to job titles and responsibilities. There were also times where you can feel very micromanaged.

Cons

Expensive service in a very competitive marketplace.
