Pros

The company was obviously in ttransistion from a "break fix" operation to a professional services organization. Training at all levels had been negelected resulting in poor service. The individual associates are friendly but it is a very closed network that does not welcome outsiders. They value years with the company over ability. Discipline is poor resulting in poor performers being moved around from department to department. The company is resistent to any Six Sigma applications to service.

Pros

There are many very good engineers and interesting projects to work on. Many of the local and divisional managers are excellent leaders and managers. "Your mileage may vary". The company sincerely encourages volunteer involvement in community affairs and is generous with accomodations for such activities.

Cons

Senior executive management is a group of very clever lawyers who know how to manage postal clerks and lobby Congressmen. This won't be good enough for the next business cycle. They really haven't figured out how to manage engineers. Overall, the company has a entrenched paternalistic and bureacratic management style which will be difficult to change. [Congratulations to the current CEO for trying] Quality of local management ranges from poor to excellent. Bad managers will outlast good staff. Too many engineering and support projects have been offshored to the Indian subsidiaries.
