Pros

It's a stable company, requesting reasonable hours from its employees. Good benefits, good place to hide out long term if you're not ambitious. Most people very nice to work with, come up with good ideas, and execute on them reasonably well.

Cons

Management tolerates high level of nastiness among its employees if they're perceived as essential. The products themselves are getting outdated and unmaintainable, with little apparent interest from upper management in major changes.

Pros

Very good family atmosphere, supportive of work-life balance. If you want to park at a small company that has a client list long enough to survive an economic climate like '08-'09, you could do much worse. People do communicate and departments work well together in general, but see below for some caveats. For testers, the software is a target-rich environment, so job security should not be an issue.

Cons

The product itself is pure spaghetti code, from the database design to the front-end. There is no interest in a full-scale rewrite, and some modules embedded within have been around for 10 years or more, with no plans to revamp or refactor. They are hardened lava that only 2-3 developers know how to deal with. If you want to work at a company with innovation and exciting technology, this is the last place to be. Fortunately, sales are robust enough and the management team solid enough to keep the rest of the work environment very pleasant. My problem was just that I wanted the work itself to be interesting--that was nigh impossible, and likely will not change.
