Pros

Working remote and the pay.

Cons

Podium’s culture revolves around two things: Mormonism and Jocko Willink. This is never mentioned when you speak to the recruiters or the sales managers that interview you. The large majority of the employees at this company (including the founders) are openly Mormon. One leader who speak to my new hire class talked about how proud he was that the church of Latter Day Saints was a Podium customer… Then they try to pretend that they support LGBTQIA+, which is just laughable. They use Mormon stories about their times as missionaries to try to motivate you, assuming you can relate. They worship Jocko Willink’s “Extreme Ownership” mentality, which really just justifies their lack of training and support. Many of the leaders have prior military experience and they lead you in a very militant way. Don’t expect any real training at this company. They throw you in the water and say “sink or swim” after the first 4 days. You are left with little to no support from your teammates and managers and your teammates feel far more like your competition than actual teammates.

Pros

Many of my colleagues were kind and hard working Enjoyed working from home while it lasted Nice sweatshirts

Cons

Performance reviews were very discouraging. Did not feel recognized, supported. Sales culture is a NIGHTMARE. They’ll blame any and all problems on CS who is over worked and under supported. Consistently felt bullied or bulldozed by sales. Many of the accounts I worked on were mismanaged prior to my start. I was expected to revive/clean up accounts with poor initial setup. No accountability for the initial CSM’s. Like playing hot potato with messy accounts. The people I worked with were so overworked, and their tremendous efforts often overlooked. Could not take any time off. The so called holidays sales would still be aggressively slacking you because they were always so anxiety ridden. Podium is exhausting. The positivity is all hype. Really just a rat race, with very little upside.

Pros

Free lunches Lots of swag Nice office

Cons

The actual job is difficult and they expect you to perform at a HIGH level. They are not afraid to let any mediocre/hard-worker go. I saw so many people let go from this position if they weren't performing at 100%. The company is growing rapidly, and for some reason they let everyone go. They say you have unlimited PTO- however if you take time off you risk not hitting quota and as a result could get let go. I was relieved when I didn't work here anymore. I am a very social person who gets along with most everybody, especially in previous jobs. I have left all previous jobs with friendships intact. At Podium, there are many friend groups already established and very few people willing to step outside of them. When I left, I didn't have one person that I would keep in contact with despite me trying to reach out and develop relationships- even strictly professional ones. It was honestly very weird and I would never recommend anyone to work in an environment that they didn't feel welcome in.
