Pros

The residents need people around other than the nursing staff to do activities other than the normal nursing facility routine. As activities staff, I got to do fun things with the residents and keep them feeling more like they are at home.

Cons

With the facility in a small town, there were some instances when the lines between the professional and personal relationships were blurred. This made it hard sometimes to decide what should be done when issues arose.

Pros

Many opportunities for overtime. Supplies are usually well stocked. Management that listens and considers nursing staff input. Many opportunities for free CEU's and the company pays for your IV certification!

Cons

Very little opportunities for the LPN to grow beyond being a floor nurse (no management opportunities, despite multiple years of experience). Often understaffed (typical for LTC), which puts a lot of stress on the floor nurse to pick up the slack, on top of an already heavy workload.
