Pros

Practising Law Institute (PLI) is a non-profit organization and industry leader in the education space. Under Anita Shapiro's guidance the company has seen tremendous growth while maintaining it's standard guiding principles. Sales specifically saw a dramatic change in the last three years in terms of organizational structure and commission incentives. Sales leadership team is hands on while allowing for reps to work without micromanagement. Working for PLI was unlike any sales environment I've been apart of where work-life balance actually does exist. Working for for PLI is one of the best kept secrets there is. Don't let the word "nonprofit" deter you and be prepared to do the work.

Cons

Lack of career advancement in terms of vertical promotions. Management can seem a little out of touch with modern practices of organizations elsewhere but at the same time does a very good job of creating a solid, fair, and productive work environment.

PLI is proud to employ the smart and hard-working people you note in your review, and we appreciate your recognition of our great staff. It is true that we do have some tenured staff in managerial roles, and we attribute that to the fact that people genuinely enjoy the collegial work environment and the opportunities to continue learning while working at PLI. We consistently encourage our staff to keep current with industry trends, and have now partnered with LinkedIn Learning to enable all to sharpen both their technical and soft skills.

Pros

The leadership of Anita Shapiro has really turned the organization from being one that just went with the flow, (when I first started when it was under different leadership), to one in which the is a focus on innovation and on responding to current events relevant to the legal community. For example, PLI responded to the travel ban by adding more programs for lawyers on habeas corpus and are doing the same with news of the DACA repeal. This active engagement with the legal community keeps PLI relevant and cutting edge as a legal education provider. PLI's benefits are second to none and are the best benefits of any employer I have ever had. Not only do you get amazing health care coverage but also eye, dental and many other perks. The also have "Coffee Talks" for employees on subject like Elder Care and more. They are always looking for ways to give more value to their employees.

Cons

You will make a little less than at a private organization but the benefits more than cover any difference. There is a lot of change at the moment but this is due to moving forward.
