Pros

Good benefits (health, dental, vision), year end bonus, 401K contribution never below 7%, referral bonus both internal and external, paid training.

Cons

I can only speak for the VA office programs. Once you are hired and placed, it is like any other company if you work at Govt site. The PMO nags you for monthly reports and to get your time card completed on time. If you have an issue, they may listen but will not do much to help. They profess a work/life balance but that is impossible if you work on Govt site. You will hear from your manager if there is bad news and that is it.

Pros

Praxis does a great job of making you feel welcome from the start (and even before). Their partners really do uphold an "open-door" policy. They do their best to enable the success and growth of their employees any way that they can.

Cons

Competition in this industry is important, but fierce. Praxis does an excellent job of insulating their employees from contract changes, but sometimes politics are unavoidable. Still, I admire their goal of competing with more established companies in the industry.

Best Mid-size Company in the Market

Pros

Praxis has been a really fantastic company to work for. I have been here for five years. The company is owned and managed by a few guys who started it a bunch of years ago and even though the company is over 250 people, it still feels small and the owners are accessible to the staff. The culture is geared towards customer and employee success, as reflected in a set of core values. I have seen the company make decisions in the best interest of customers and employees while taking a financial hit to do so. Praxis has always maintained a long-term view in the market. Instead of trying to squeeze every bit of profit out of a dollar, the owners have always taken the view that they should see how much they can provide in value for that dollar to their customers and employees. With dozens of contracts in the DoD, Praxis has a lot of options for engineers in terms of interesting/challenging roles on the latest technologies. Most positions are software-focused across a wide range of domains.

Cons

Most positions will require a Government security clearance and Praxis isn't usually able to hire uncleared staff and help them obtain their clearances. You typically already have to have a clearance to get a job here. Some larger companies in the industry will have more options as far as open positions available at any given time. While Praxis is a larger mid-size company, it competes with companies with 10,000+ employees.
