Ok if you just want a job

Pros

Decent benefits, some dedicated staff

Cons

Management hires good people, but doesn't listen to them or provide resources for them to do the job they were hired to do. Senior management is the middle-age white man club with a couple of rare exceptions. The place is very old-school insurance, and it seems like it is stuck in the past. It gives lip service to things like "customer experience" but it looks at customer experience through a very operational lens. The actuarial and finance departments along with sales wield all of the power. There is a poor understanding of communications both internal and External. Top down communications don't trickle far beyond senior management, leaving the rank and file to do their best on little direction. Then employees are blamed when things don't go as senior management would like. Lots of ego at the top. Ick. Management does not support employees, instead there is a lot of posturing and jockeying for power among the senior executive set. Ick. If you just want a job and to work from 8 to 5 it's great. If you actually have any kind of career ambition or appreciate being recognized for your contributions you should look elsewhere.

Good Company to Work For

Pros

Great benefits. Recent increase in PTO is great. Pay fairly competitive. Nice campus. Great walking trail. Awesome cafeteria. Most people here are wonderful. I like that they help pay for bus passes too, and have carpooling options.

Cons

Recent layoffs were handled very poorly with lack of communication. Everyone was terrified they would get the "tap on the shoulder" next. Rumors were flying rampant. WAY to heavy on upper management. I've never worked anywhere that has sooo many VP's and EVP's! Unfortunately, none of those layoffs included the upper management.

Brutal management turnover

Pros

The pay was more than adequate. My coworkers in marketing were a delight to work with. Company made an effort to provide wellness activities for employees.

Cons

Never had any management that appeared to know how to best take advantage of the talent. There were three separate silos -- marketing as such, social media, and ecomm -- and efforts to merge efforts got nowhere. When the ax fell on the whole department, I suspect the employees who had tried to overcome that were punished for management's failure to fix the problem. Nobody lasted long in marketing management. After a while, motivation to do better dwindled to an effort to survive day to day and look forward to the next vacation when there might be time to do something creative.
