A Company in Transition

Pros

Steady company to be a part of Cruise discounts (if you are into it) Fresh faces being incorporated into a company that's pushing innovation Depending on the department, opportunities to advance People recognize they aren't out to cure cancer - it's a cruise company, so while there are critical and fast-paced days, work/life balance is overall good

Cons

Salary increase caps (very small % increase allowed), feel like just a number to the company Being a large company, everything seems to take a long time Lack of mentorship, and leaders who are able to do so in an effective way (or choose not to)

Pros

Great coworkers/ mostly friendly culture Close to home if you live in Santa Clarita Some cruise benefits (have been reduced recently) Good work/ life balance Can be exciting working in the vacation/ travel industry

Cons

Low morale Pay is below industry standards (most employees would tell you the company is cheap) Low raises (i.e. they will not negotiate on internal promotions) Poor IT support (IT was outsourced to Capgemini and has resulted in poorer support) Poor executive management (they are not honest with employees and have made many bad decisions over the years) Forced integration with Holland America Line (ongoing but has calmed some. Resulted in morale issues and high turnover)

Medical Dept

Pros

Some of the people there are really hard working and genuinely care about the guests and crew on board.

Cons

Extremely low pay, the only folks in the department who can afford to pay all their bills and afford rent locally are Managers and above. In the medical department alone we've lost over 23 people in the last year and a half. HR never responded to any complaints or addressed the EXTREMELY high turnover rates. Also one of the company's main selling points is the "Free Cruises" you get to go on once you've been in the company long enough. However what they don't tell you is that the vast majority have impossible wait lists or need to be scheduled years in advance. Some benefit huh?
