Incredible work experience for college students to gain experience prior to Med School/PA School.

Cons

Unorganized, terrible leadership from the top. It's not that the work culture is bad it's the complete lack of culture. Always looking for new business rather than investing in current business/markets. Growing faster than could manage with the incredible inexperience of the Executive team. Extremely poor management and lack of support to the corporate employees to be successful. Was promised things in interview that were immediately taken back upon my being hired.

Pros

Great opportunity to interact with doctors, patients, and nurses. The position is extremely conducive to the retention of medical terminology and networking with physicians. The job is not very difficult and there is usually time to study.

Cons

Communication is very poor between management and scribes. Most of management are former scribes with little-to-know knowledge of how to run a business. Employee turnover is expensive and could be greatly reduced if the employees developed loyalty. I understand why the pay is low, given the business model, but most scribes have more formal education than everyone they work with (besides the doctors). Self-scheduling was a massive perk when I initially started, as seniority actually had value. Self-scheduling did leave some gaps in the schedule, but that was the whole point of having the site coordinator as a full-time employee.

Pros

Incomparable medical experience and observation, gain working medical knowledge, easy to work around classes (8-shift minimum/month) and they take into account your school schedule.

Cons

Low wages for very high expectations (HIPAA, knowing med terms, not getting the doctor sued). After 2 years, being a trainer, and receiving praise from many providers I don't have a raise. Very poor training and recruiting recently. Poor communication from upper mgt (starting from account manager). Being a scribe is not a social job. Also, now you don't pick your own schedule, it is chosen for you based on availability.
