Pros

Work/life balance is better than Big 4.

Cons

-Limited areas of focus. Essentially the firm is focused on internal audit and SOX work. If you do anything else expect to travel significantly. -Be prepared to work on little details that add little to no value on the client engagement (i.e. unnecessary flow charts, timelines, controls listing and walkthroughs that do not have relevance in the final deliverable to the client). Its all "Keep you busy" type work. Unfortunately, the client is paying for all this and has no idea. -Little to no on-boarding process for experienced hires. We have higher expectations of experienced hires but management's disorganization and lack of training sets these new hires to fail. -Experienced hires are staffed based on resource gaps rather than matching their skills with a relevant engagement. Essentially everyone is a body just billing the client. -Revenue growth of the company is primarily due to the hiring of more staff. Protiviti ends up billing more to the client for work that could have been performed by less staff. -POTENTIAL CLIENTS BEWARE: Protiviti's business model is predicated on getting their foot in the door for a specific engagement in order to find more work to bill you for. We are all evaluated in being creative to find additional work. Never expect to only pay the proposed amount. Lots of cost overruns and budget/project updates. -Lots of turnover! Protiviti is hiring masses of amounts of staff. Some will sink and some will swim. They are hoping experienced hires bring in more business. -401K benefits are comical. Essentially all you get matched is 33% for each dollar up to 6% of salary. No incentive there. -Health Benefits are average -Rigid review/evaluation process. I would recommend do bare minimum. Any overachieving will not result in faster promotions or higher pay. -Titles are insignificant. Protiviti titles are not comparable to Big 4 titles. (e.g. Manager at protiviti is more like a Senior associate at Big 4). -Antiquated Expense reporting system and travel booking system. -Very robotic mentality and culture.

Thank you for your feedback. We invested heavily in our entry level on-boarding programs over the course of the last two years. We are now focused heavily on improving our experienced hire on-boarding programs. We anticipate our program rolling out in phases over the course of 2015. It will include both a standardized in person "welcome" experience and an online, interactive portal with personalized workflows and social networking. Our goal is to quickly network our new hires into their Advisor and HR teams who will support them in their transition. We will also provide workflow that will guide their experience and point them to the trainings and tools specific to their needs based on their individual profiles. If you would like to be involved in providing feedback on this program, I encourage you to reach out to your local HR lead and they will ensure you get plugged into the project.

Pros

-Generally nice people -Depending on the group you're in, Protiviti can possibly serve as a springboard to a more desirable job at one of your clients

Cons

-These reviews do not reflect reality. I've heard through the grapevine that there has been some pressure for people to write positive reviews. Every single person I know at Protiviti is unhappy and considering leaving. The New York office has particularly high turnover, and I've heard the situation is similar at other offices. -Why the high turnover. Protiviti is not, I repeat not, a consulting firm in the sense that most people understand consulting. It's an internal audit firm that masquerades as a consultancy. Even the "glamor" risk and compliance projects (the only arm of the firm that borders true consulting) are approached from an Auditor's standpoint. -There is no training for experienced hires, and the way Protiviti staffs is borderline unethical. They will place experienced hires with zero background or training in Audit on an audit project and expect them to just "figure it out." -Speaking of staffing - you are just a warm body. You will be thrown on whatever project they need you on, regardless of your background, skill set, future goals, travel preferences, etc. It might work out well for you, but it oftentimes doesn't. -Promotions are basically a popularity contest. Your chargeability is a far second to how well you suck up to your superiors and how many worthless internal initiatives you're part of. -Protiviti basically just undercuts the Big Four on price and that's how they get the lion's share of their business. Caution to those considering coming here from the Big Four: your hours might be better but the caliber of everything is significantly lower.

Thank you for providing your comments. Let me encourage you to meet with your Career Advisor right away so that you can discuss your issues. We have a robust advisor program that many employees find very helpful to their career development. I notice that you are describing generalizations and not your own personal experiences; however, if your experiences are the driver, we want to help you. We encourage all our people to express their viewpoints about working at Protiviti. We would welcome a dialogue with you directly.

Pros

Fortunately, the people at the company are amazing and I have made several best friends at Protiviti.

Cons

1) Not true consulting - I almost feel as though I am a liar when I tell people that I am a consultant, because I am not. I am simply a contractor placed on a series of production projects that provide little value to my own career growth. The projects are also monotonous and utterly boring. 2) Management - there are several people that I do not believe are competent enough to be placed in a managerial role. This in turn leads to poor project planning and chaotic projects where essentially it seems as though the entire team is running around like chickens with their heads cut off. 3) Over worked - it would be false to say that we do not make a decent salary here at Protiviti. However, when you are being asked to work late into the night, employees should be compensated. The fact that there isn't anything set up for dinner per diem and ubers home when an employee stays past a certain hour is extremely upsetting. Especially considering the fact that our company seems to have no problem spending money on events and booze (which one would think would be of less importance).
