Pros

You get a pay check, potential for lots of wealth accumulation if you can put up with the job. Does not require skills or intelligence

Cons

Lots of micro management, weak mid level leadership who does not know how to manage managers, dealing with highly ignorant customers and staff, lack of prioritizing strategic goals and objectives,

An Awful Place to Work!

Pros

At Public Storage, they have some good stock incentives for Regional Managers and above, but even they are being reduced significantly.

Cons

The top down culture here makes this an awful place to work. The company manages by fear and expects to terminate a big percentage of it's employees every year. One DVP actually stated, "All your employees are stealing from you, it's your job to find out how and then fire them." One of the CEO's favorite sayings is "Only the paranoid survive!" Even the paranoid can't stand this place. Nearly all employees are consistently looking for another job to find a way out. He also has a short-term view of the business and does not believe in customer service, he only wants decisions made that affect the quarterly results he has to present to Wall Street. Read the customer reviews on Google and you will see what I mean. Even the positive reviews were received through a forced solicitation. In the CEO's own words, "We puke cash", yet even though they had record breaking YOY improvement, salaries and hourly wages are the lowest in the industry and increases are often put off for several months. My best advice to you is to stay as far away as you can get, both as a customer and an employee.

Pros

As a newer employee I can say that the training program is fantastic. This is not a company that will throw you into a position and tell you "good luck". The training is 2-3 months with full pay. The people I have been working with are great trainers, but also really enjoy coming to work. It's definitely not a miserable place to be. As far as the actual position, you are given a lot of autonomy to run your own District, but you will never be sitting around looking at your watch. There is a lot of variety of work, and if you are the type of person who likes to get outside then you will be thankful that you aren't stuck in a cubicle 24/7. There is also a lot of untapped potential talent to work with at the property level. I really enjoy the coaching with employees and helping them learn life-long skills that will help them be their best. Coaching and developing people at the property level will help you set your team apart from other Districts. You also work as a team with other Districts and the attitude is helpful and competitive, but not when it's at detriment to the company. The best part about the company is that people from Regional to "Corporate" are all very welcoming and happy to have a conversation with you. There is no "better than you" upper managers that I have met. I can walk over to someone in real-estate and they are happy to talk about how they help make the business run. All the Regional Managers are invested into employee well-being, even with people that don't work for them. I don't think I've seen that anywhere else I've worked. If you are on the fence about applying, you should go in for the interview. Between the ride along "day in the life of" and interview process, you will know it's the right place for you.

Cons

The company restricted stock program is a great incentive to further your career. 8 years is a long horizon for full vestment of stock.
