Pros

You are at least allowed to go home at 6pm. But I wouldn't say you're done working. The only positive thing I can think of is They pay you on time.

Cons

Ok- notice how most of the recent reviews from October are from Regional Managers, claiming how "upper management" is so personable? That's because you won't find any other employees giving them that credit. That's false. They are so far out of reality. They never visit a property unless they are being visited from their bosses, then it's all a dog-and-pony show, and will flat out lie about being in the field with the employees. I literally have a Regional Manager that doesn't know half my team and has never been to 30% of my properties. Pay is very low compared to other District Managers at other storage companies. I know this because most of PS Managers leave for that very reason. For about 4 days each month, you're cutting locks all day. Other storage companies do not require DMs to cut locks. Look- turnover with Property Managers is so high, all you do as a DM is recruit and hire, and scramble to fill your schedules with a warm body to hopefully get your property open on time. This is causing the District Managers to start jumping ship because the work sucks. There are so many DMs leaving, or in the process of leaving, that I feel bad for the current DMs that will be having to run their own districts, plus keep others afloat since there will be open districts. Because of the high DM turnover, you are now seeing Regional Managers posting 5-star reviews on Glass Door hoping they can fool you into thinking this is a great company. There is no personal development here- nobody has the time.

Pros

As a district manager, you are in the field very few weekends, with nothing after 6pm.

Cons

Extreme micro-management of district managers. Daily conference calls intended to humiliate employees in front of each other. The executive team doesn't think that the buildings should be maintained or cleaned. Most of the customer related issue are avoidable if PS would just loosen the purse strings and let the DM fix the buildings as needed. The hourly employees have no chance of getting promoted and are payed a very low wage. This adds to the difficulty since there is nothing to motivate them to work. Extremely overpriced merchandise and forced to enforce used car salesman pushy sales approach or get fired. The last thing PS thinks about when making a decision is how it effects people. Won't even clean an apartment for an employee before they move in. This could be a great job if they would give two thoughts about people and not make every decision based on what's cheapest today.

Pros

No political drama. Decisions are made using data and logic versus emotion. Employee retention is a pleasant surprise. People love working here and very few leave. The security of a successful company. Easy access to management. Anyone can talk to anyone else. Managers are empowered. Leadership trusts you to do your job. Investments in technology to upgrade systems enable new capabilities makes Public Storage an exciting place to work for everyone.

Cons

Some benefits are not as generous as other large companies but the policies encourage personal responsibility which is a very good thing. There are only a few corporate holidays but the holidays align with when the storage facilities are also closed which is fair and supportive of the people who interact with customers every day. This is unlike many large retail type businesses where corporate gets time off but the store employees have to work.
