Pros

I have been working for Public Storage for almost a year now and I have to say it's a big step up from the public accounting world. Work hours are 8AM-5PM with minimal overtime required. Great work environment with people who actually love their jobs. Most of the people that I work with have been here for 20+ years. I think the reason Public Storage has such a low turn-over rate is because they really focus on the little things. They provide us with bagels every Friday and even have raffles with cash prizes at our monthly meetings. Although these things seem really simple they help keep up the morale in the office.

Cons

The pay is good but could be more competitive. They only give you 3 paid holidays so you have to use PTO if you want other holidays off. People tend to stay with the company for 20+ years so it could be hard to move up within the company.

Pros

Working alone. Half down time and half busy. Meet lots of new people. Mainly janitorial work. Great job for returning to retail sales. Offers benefits. Builds management experience. Simple cash, checks, and credit card payments.

Cons

Forced to sell locks and insurance (company makes employees tell customers insurance is a requirement when it really isn't) Employees are liable to have to explain to district manager why they haven't sold locks, insurance or merchandise. Job is highly based on retail experience. Set scripts to follow and if not learned fluently termination is decided. District managers hardly ever reply to property managers wants and needs for property's issues. Relief and property managers have very low power as far as issues and complaints. Company is very cheap and does not like to spend to fix necessary things around the property. (Roof leaks, gutters, door hasps, lights). Human resource department is very slow and inaccurate when returning paperwork. Depending on district manager, schedules are set and not alternated. (Some managers work every Sat and Sun away from their families; not able to call off because of low staffing). Depending on district manager: can be stuck working extremely busy days with no help. (Lines out of door).
