So many hopes dashed!

Pros

Some great people who really care about what they are there to do.

Cons

Soul crushing, passive aggressive managers that rule by intimidation. The idea of annual performance reviews is a joke... Never happens, especially if you've gotten good reviews!

Pros

mostly good people to work with and decent benefits

Cons

Leadership cannot be trusted. Many of us were hired in the past three years and were told the company would always be "digital first/remote", but then they started mandating everyone return to the office. Of course except those who were hired outside of a commutable distance. How is that fair or honest? How can we be expected to trust them?

Pros

They didn't lay people off during the pandemic.

Cons

I was going to say nothing says [fill in the blank here with corporate value around treating each other with respect] like promoting people who publically target women and minorities for abuse, except there are no published values around treating each other with respect. The technology side of the house rewards unprofessional behavior and bullying. One CTO is well known for shouting at people who aren't in his inner circle, lying and spreading rumors about peers and subordinates whose careers he wants to limit, and though there have been multiple complaints, nothing has been done. Another refused to attend meetings where women executives were present. Gaslighting is common. People agree to things and then sabotage them outside the room or outright deny they've agreed or committed, even when presented with notes or recordings. Of course, HR doesn't want you recording meetings... so there's that. Because leadership in technology is an incompetent club, they don't actually measure on results. The rank and file finds themselves trying to solve the same problems year after year. It frustrating, tedious, and boring as one solves a problem in one enclave only to move to the next dumpster fire and put it out. The pay is under market and there is nothing being done to retain people. The expectation is that the remaining people just do more and work more. There's little investment in technology that would make people more efficient. The goal is to cut costs, always.
