Massive Layoffs despite strong earnings - activist investor shenanigans

Pros

This WAS a great place to work - good people who are fun, nice & smart. Massive layoffs in August 2016 happened out of the blue and there is a huge brain drain that occurred because of these layoffs. The company is very different from what it was four years ago.

Cons

You can be laid off without warning, despite your own strong performance. Very male dominated culture. Very financially driven company, not focused on consumer satisfaction. Senior management totally caved to outside activist investors.

Pros

Large Company, decent benefits, large footprint across the country. It's long, but the floorplan design charrette process does create decent floorplans.

Cons

Expansion through purchase of other Brands. Company does not know how to purchase a brand and keep it running. It always gets folded into their general program, and what is special about the brand eventually disappears. Del Webb, Divosta, Centex, and now John Wieland is next. Eventually, they lose all "value creation".

Very rewarding helping customers build their dream home and establishing long term relationships with them.

Cons

This was the worst company I have ever worked for. The work life balance was horrible. Non collaborative teamwork. Used car lot mentality. Leadership favored certain employees. Used employees like robots, did not care about the employee or the family. Keep track of your commission, because Pulte won't. No career path.
