Pros

+Free Coffee , but you will be written up if you use one of the companies Styrofoam cups next to the coffee machine. This coffee could cost you your job so I guess it's not free after all.

Cons

- Every single aspect of this company is absolutely horrible, there is absolutely no vision for growth. - Management does not care one single bit about improving or even implementing processes or documentation, nothing will ever change as long as they have non technical people making decisions and ignoring tech peoples advice. - People who have been with the company for over 6 months are completely demoralized and you can tell. They keep to themselves and hold on information on how to perform their job. They will not share for fear they will be replaced and if they do then congratulations you have already been ensured your promotion. - If you are the type of person who cares about your job or advancing your career then this is not the place for you. You will absolutely regret signing on here. - I had been with QTS for a few years and left in late 2014 by my own choice, I still hear horror stories even today. It took me almost a year to write a review so I could step back and reflect on the experience I had here and not be biased. - QTS is a dead end if you are in the technical field. Working here might actually look bad on your resume as I have had interviewers who had been disgusted at the sight of these 3 letters and said that I maybe have unlearned to much to be an asset to them. Bottom line is find another company if you have any sort of respect for yourself.

Could be great, but probably won't.

Pros

Excellent facility. Some workers who really care. Excellent opportunity to work with new technology.

Cons

Upper management, by their own admission, are really real estate gurus. They purchase under-performing properties, fix them up, and make datacenters. It's a great idea. The problem is, on a technical level, they are completely inept. I think they're good people and do care, but they just don't know how. The employment door is revolving. Good people get hired, have a honeymoon period, then leave. The benefits are more like a startup than a real tech company. The health plan is an HSA... not good for older people or folks with families. Low 401K match. There is an odd fanaticism at work here. If you're in the "inner circle" you're totally set no matter how much you stink at your job.

Pros

In general, the people here were fantastic to work with. There will always be a few bad apples here and there, but in general it was a pleasant place to work, and I was happy most days to come to work. It’s a great place to get your foot in the door of the data center industry.

Cons

Work life balance is non-existent. Ever since the company was bought by Blackstone, there has been a much higher focus on financial data over anything else. This has led to hiring less than qualified people for lower pay, major understaffing issues, and annual “raises” that don’t even compensate for inflation, meaning you actually start losing money the longer you work here. Due to massive understaffing I on more than a few occasions was “asked” to work weekends, holidays, and swing/night shifts, when I had explicitly told management that due to the birth of my new child, I wouldn’t be able to cover, and was promised reasonable accommodation. I was at that point told that even though my hiring letter stating a Monday through Friday day shift schedule, that didn’t matter and the company could make me work any schedule required. I saw on more than one occasion an internal employee get passed over for a promotion in favor of an external hire. One of those employees had been doing the duties of the role above them for over a year, and when they interviewed for that very position, they got told “you have no experience in this, so we can’t promote you”. That position then went to an outside hire with not only no experience in the role, but no experience in the data center industry at all. This is a great place to get your foot in the door, but if you are looking to move up in a company, get your feet wet here and move on to somewhere else.

QTS Response

First of all, thank you for your service at QTS and spending those long days to ensure our customers were well taken care of. I could not agree with you more that QTS Sacramento is one of the best teams in the portfolio. After visiting the site recently, I am convinced that our customers would agree with that sentiment as well. Sincerely, thank you for your feedback. We appreciate candor in all forms. While I cannot get into specifics of hiring decisions, there are three main competencies that we look for in an external and internal candidates: aptitude, attitude and workplace alignment. Ultimately, we strive to hire the best internal and external candidates to fill open positions. As for internal hiring, in the last 9 months, we've had three internal candidates get promoted to People Leadership roles at the Sacramento Data Center. We will continue to look for more opportunities to promote from within and we will do a better job communicating that to our team members. As for merit increase, I can confidently say that QTS offers some of the highest average annual merit increases in the industry. We will continue to stay competitive and will review the Sacramento market pay rates on a reoccurring basis to ensure that we are. It is unfortunate to hear that you had a mixed experience working at QTS and I would not mind the opportunity to discuss it further. Please feel free to contact me on LinkedIn or my email. Thank you for your response and we wish you well in your future success. - Laren Olson (VP, Facilities Operations II)
