Frustration-Dissonance-Burn Out

Pros

Very little here that is truly a pro. The volunteerism is as close as it gets. The scale tips overwhelmingly to the con. Read on.

Cons

Very poor work-life balance. Employee burn-out is rampant among the site operation team members. So much so, that it has become normalized and expected from the site managers down. The first rule of the operations team is that we don't talk about the low staffing, fatigue, and burn-out. We are expected to keep pushing forward with little regard to physical or mental consequence. If our customers were informed of our operations team staffing levels on night shifts, holidays, and recurring staffing shortages, they would be utterly shocked and concerned. Specifically, with the DCO teams, the employee attrition is appallingly high. Our customers that have a daily employee presence in our data centers even go out of their way to regularly voice their concerns directly to DCO staff about employee turnover. Salaries are below market levels, despite the insistence of HR stating the opposite, in a fashioned robot-like cadence. If they keep saying it's true, the employees will begin to believe it, right? In this highly competitive labor market, you don't have to look too hard to find better pay, better opportunity for advancement, and better environments in which to work. After nearly 7 years with the company, I'm doing exactly that.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. It is unfortunate you are leaving QTS after seven years with a negative view of the organization. QTS, along with most other companies, regularly conducts market wage analysis to validate our pay ranges are market competitive. We also survey other companies to ensure we offer a variety of employee health and well-being programs and benefits. QTS has an industry leading customer Net Promoter Score of 90; double the industry average of 45. We staff our sites to the right work at the right time; which includes scheduling recurring tasks during standard hours. We also offer career pathing opportunities that support growth and development among a variety of job families. We wish you success in your next endeavor.

Forced into the office

Pros

Lots of great talent here (for now) and I do enjoy (most) of the people I work with.

Cons

A recent decision by the CEO is forcing everyone back into the office after us being remote for over two years. The CEO likes to talk about family but couldn't care less about your actual family and work/life balance. This has been an issue my entirety of employment and will never get better. The CEO likes to pray during all hands meetings. It feels very cult like at times and makes me uncomfortable. Not everyone shares your religious beliefs Chad, please stop. Please keep your religion out of a professional work environment.

At QTS, we believe that we are stronger together and that working in the office with one another fosters a culture of collaboration, innovation, and development opportunities that make us a truly unique and special place to work. We also recognize that employees have individual needs and have always endorsed a culture of flexibility to support their needs as they arise. In addition to this flexibility, we will be rolling out a flex program that will afford eligible employees the ability to work with their manager on additional remote work days throughout the year. It is our intention to honor all faiths - as stated in our core value of 'Support of Faith, Family and Community.' It is never our intent to make our employees uncomfortable, and we will continue to live out all of our core values as fully as possible and encourage everyone to bring their whole selves to work. QTS Core Values Integrity, Character, Trust | Action, Innovation, Accountability | Team Oriented Respect Our Customers | Support of Family, Faith & Community Volunteerism

Pros

People working in the trenches are genuinely nice. Pay is fair. Carpathia acquisition may add some much needed leadership. I’m not a coffee drinker, but apparently that is one of things the company has going for it.

Cons

Remember the scene in Apocalypse Now where Kurtz (Marlon Brando) is lying on his death bed saying “The horror. The horror….”? Working for QTS is sort of like that, but with free coffee. Ok, maybe it’s not that bad, but it’s pretty bad. Read the other reviews if you don’t believe me. While there are a number of bright and capable people working at QTS, the lack of processes and absence of standard operating procedures makes it impossible for most people to do their jobs effectively. Couple that with the horrible leadership practices (e.g. weird organizational hierarchy, rampant nepotism, a COO who is obsessed with making everyone in the org go through a useless self-help / communication program instead of filling huge operational gaps, etc.) and you have a recipe for disaster. Did I mention the crying? I’ve never worked in a place where people just start crying in meetings. Between the crying and the CEO espousing his ultra-fundamentalist Christian views, every meeting runs the risk of turning into an old-timey religious revival. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. Unlike other reviewers I wouldn’t even recommend the company to people just starting out as they will just have to unlearn every bad habit they picked up while working at QTS.
