A One-sided Arrangement

Pros

Co-workers. Cafeteria. Relatively nice workspaces.

Cons

Contributions to the bottom line are only recognized if the right person in the company chooses to recognize them. Loyalty has increasingly become one-sided and the employees know this all too well. Even high performers understand that when the CEO announces that "net neutral" changes are coming, their days as an employee could be numbered. Think twice before you sacrifice your work-life balance and invest passion and loyalty into this company. You'll likely find your return on investment disappointing and your stress level higher than necessary.

Not the same QVC since the merger

Pros

Great benefits including paid time off, medical, dental, vision, nutritional coaching, generous 401K match, employee discounts, Starbucks, employee sales, clean environment, and a bank on-site.

Cons

The warm family friendly environment along with the unique culture that QVC once embraced for all of its years drastically changed after the merger with HSN and Zulily. Three very separate cultures clashing as the managers who come from H and Zu to lead the Q are bringing with them their rigid impersonal micromanagement styles. The Q employees are being conditioned to forget about their positive, enriching, engaging, and flexible upbringing in exchange for the “be thankful you have a job” mentality. QVC at one time nurtured and embraced an environment where you never wanted to work anywhere else. It was a unique culture, one that was like no other. Taking the wind from the sails of the tenured people who have believed and supported the Q for many decades was a bad move. QVC became just a job where the QVC Values now only live in the etched tile flooring as a reminder of what once was. This is why I left the Q

Pros

The people are great, which is why there are so many people with very long tenure. Health care benefits are good, and the 401K match was above the average until they announced this week it will be reduced soon. Management is open and always willing to talk with you. There are many opportunities for career growth and continued learning.

Cons

Recent lay-offs have left a sad tone. Buildings seem empty, and construction to improve them has been halted. Work/life balance is constantly getting worse. As other companies get better in this area, QVC keeps cutting back. We once had flexible schedules and those were eliminated. Then we were allowed work at home days, and now we're told those are going away. The push is to do more with less as they make it harder to live your life outside of work.
