Great Pay, Nice Benefits

Pros

If you are focused long-term, one of the company's core values, you will reap many rewards throughout your career. The most notable is the company's 401K plan, in particular the ESOP (stock in the company.) As employees each year contribute to the company returning great profits, the company shares a portion of these profits with its employees. In addition, the value of the company stock rises with all this success, so the more shares you own the quicker your wealth grows. The pay is also great for the industry. An entry-level Assistant manager earns what competitors pay their Store Managers. Plus there are great monthly bonuses based on your store's monthly profit and how a secret shopper appraises the average of your store's and kitchen's service.

Cons

The work schedule for all levels of management are terrible. Entry-level either works all overnights (including Friday and Saturday) as a Night Assistant or a crazy weekly blend of morning/evening/overnight shifts as a Relief Assistant. Promotion to Second Assistant relieves you of overnight shifts, but working evening shifts on Saturday and Sundays until 11 or 12 makes it difficult to find family/social time. Further promotion to First Assistant relieves you of weekend shifts, but evening shifts on Wednesday through Friday can make family life difficult. Promotion to Store Manager means you work the traditional Monday through Friday mornings, but quarterly store meetings, always being on call unless you are on vacation, weekend visits, 6 hours on non-shift work, and being required to work extra shifts if the store is unable to staff certain shifts due to personel shortages can also make the work/life balance difficult.

Nightmare Job

Pros

Weekly pay is nice. Clocking out of a shift is the best thing about the job.

Cons

Please ignore the accolades about QT being one of the best companies to work for- it used to be, but those times are gone. P/T clerk hours have been drastically cut, so full time employees are expected to work even harder w/o any increase in pay. 9 hour shifts on your feet w/o any breaks or time to eat a meal. Pay is not that great for the amount of work expected.

Pros

-You get experience. -1.289% Chance to get a free trip to Hawaii with a plus one.

Cons

-Scheduling is horrible. They like to hire alot of employees during peak seasons, leaving those who have been working at a store for years will have to work as an Extra Relief Personnel on a shift that most likely does not work with your own schedule, or transfer to a store that can give you those hours. To make room for new clerks i guess. - No breaks. Not that I really need one. I usually like to work until the work is done. I'm pretty sure it is illegal to not give your workers a break though. -Not enough time off. Only full-time employees get vacation days. Even if you work full-time hours as a part-time clerk, you do not get vacation days. You get 5 Personal days, 10 Sick days, and 30 free shifts to start. Those days return to you a year and a day later. Use them wisely. Free shifts are shifts where you work a couple hours and if an Extra Relief worker is available then they will come to finish the remainder of your shift so you can go home. -Managers will not work with you on personal issues that may arise at work. Lets say if your pants rip in the crotch area so that your underwear is showing as well as your genitals. Your manager is not allowed to let you go home and change even if you live down the street! This happened to me and about 12 others in my area. My underwear and genitals were exposed for 5 hours of my 8 hour shift. -Corporate does not warn stores about upcoming deals. We are meant to take the deal head on with whatever we have in stock, have customers screaming and yelling at us for being out of product, and then supervisors getting on us about not having product when they were supposed to inform us in the first place. We had an ice cream deal since the beginning of March 2018 where you can get an ice cream cone or ice cream in a cup for 49 cents. It is June and stores are just now getting stocked with just enough ice cream for 3/4ths of a normal day. That is still not enough. -There are not enough hours available at stores to give stores the help they need. Corporate is trying to save money. This makes every store short handed. There are tons of DAW tasks that each shift has to do, but they do not get done because every store is short staffed due to the low hours. -You have to give up your life to make any money at this job. Unless you want to work your way up to Store Manager, this is not the place to make money. Store Managers that I have spoken to make around 90-120 thousand a year if they combine their salary with bonuses. Being a First Assistant or a Second Assistant is pretty close as well. But DO NOT become a permanent Night Assistant o r Relief Assistant. I suggest getting the management experience of a NA or RA and then going to a better paying job.
