Pros

REi promotes Work Life Balance and Outdoor nature interaction. REI gives great benefits packages and embrace all types of lifestyles.

Cons

REI tends to hire same personality type employees and internally. At corporate it is mostly caucasian. Their customer demographics tend to match with their employee mix.

Pros

Flexible scheduling for both part-time and full-time employees Good benefits for full-time employees Fantastic pro-deals offered to employees as well as discounts Friendly environment

Cons

Upper management needs an overhaul. Some middle management seem a bit lackadaisical (e.g. a phone rings and management sits there looking at it, while being called over the intercom and does nothing). Folks who actually do work don't get as much recognition and/or the Andersen award vs those who balk and pretend to do work --- it's a popularity contest.

Pros

Balance, fun, awesome values and a different kind of retail. Creativity is encouraged and recognition comes often. REI practices what it preaches.

Cons

To much inconsistency from store to store based on direction given by store management. Systems are horribly out-dated and need to be improved.
