      Pros

      Management at the store level is good. Employees generally work well together.

      Cons

      Corporate structure and management only want money. The outward appearance of caring about employees and customers, is much more important than actually caring about employees or customers.

      Things to like, but also some concerns

      Pros

      For a retail company the benefits (especially the prescription benefits) are pretty good. In general the company's heart is in the right place and overall the people I worked with on a daily basis were great.

      Cons

      There is a concerning trend in the culture that seems less open and less focused on developing knowledgable and customer focused staff. REI is becoming just like every other retailer which will disenfranchise the most committed staff and drive away customers.

      Pros

      Amazing coworkers who became very good friends, good, clear trainings, employee and pro deals, transit benefit was a big plus, work isn't very hard and it is easy to pick up shifts from coworkers

      Cons

      After our store unionized, it became a hostile work environment, the company is extremely hypocritical in its values, management did everything they could to take disciplinary action against employees, It is hard to get trained in other departments, hours are slashed during the fall and winter but they still require open availability
