Great People, Stifled Growth

Pros

The people you work with are some of the best in the industry. Managers try with the little they're given to improve their employee's lives.

Cons

Having previously worked here, I saw a company with aspirations turn into a metrics machine. If you're not hitting your metrics, what is your value, felt like a common theme. In addition, there is no room for upward movement in the company. The current state of the company is too many people in higher level roles and not enough employees in lower-level roles. If you have any aspiration of vertical movement, it will fall on deaf ears. They do not have the willingness or capability to move people up. I was promised for years the ability to move to the next level or be given a new direction, but it was never going to happen. If you're hitting the numbers that were set for you, why would they care to make changes? Hit your numbers = receiving the bare minimum cost of living raise, minimal ESOP stocks, and an increased cost of your benefits package. If you asked me when I first started, I would have told anyone to work here. After you become disillusioned, you’ll understand it’s empty promises and pressure to bring in as much money as possible. It felt like nothing was ever enough.

No trust in leadership

Pros

The group of people I work with are great

Cons

You cannot trust the leadership in this company. We were told in early 2022 that our work from home abilities were going to stay that way. We hired people based on this understanding. It was working beautifully and people had an amazing work life balance. This year they decided to pull the rug out from under us and pull an RTO stunt that sent dozens of people packing and moving on to companies that respect them. What leadership didn’t understand is the WFH abilities we had were the only, and I mean ONLY, incentive to staying here. Other firms pay more, have more PTO, give bonuses, give more than cost of living raises to those who earned it, have cheaper benefits, treat their employers respectfully and do not lie. Our CEO has been caught spreading lies about what other firms are doing in order to keep people from leaving. The “research” they claimed they used that proved RTO makes companies more profitable was also proven false. He claims the majority of the company wants the RTO when really it is less than 10%. We have lost amazing staff since this policy was announced. People who have worked here for 20+ years. Yet, the CEO and COO (who is fairly new to this company) will not back down. What kind of leader are you if you can’t admit when you made a mistake? They talk to us like we are mindless robots. They think we will stay because we are an ESOP. No one really cares about the ESOP money anymore as in a year or so this company will probably be worthless anyway. Our CEO’s legacy will be that he destroyed a once awesome and strong engineering firm. And his sidekick in doing so is the COO. We have some groups here that have decent regional directors and VPs. But there are other groups that have terrible regional directors and terrible VPs. Those groups seem to be losing the most people. No one has your back here. If you have a problem or an issue with a project or client, or anything really, consider yourself on your own. They won’t provide much help because they don’t care enough about their own groups. This is directly related to how the company is being led. There is no trust in leadership anymore. So much so that for my job function I chose Other because I don’t want them to pinpoint who I am. I’m leaving on my owns terms, not because they can’t handle the truth. Our recruiter has reached out to several people to post positive reviews to offset the negative ones. That made me cringe. And that should tell you everything you need to know. You’ll also notice that all of their replies to the negative reviews are cookie-cutter responses. Just ridiculous.

We understand everyone’s experience is individual to them. However, some of the claims in this review are inaccurate. RETTEW’s return-to-office transition was a big change, and our leadership recognizes it hasn’t been easy for everyone. We also acknowledge the process for rolling out the new policy could have gone better. That said, our decision to bring employees back to the office three days a week was made thoughtfully, with input from multiple levels of the company. To clarify our approach to Glassdoor reviews, long before our return-to-office transition, RETTEW periodically reminded employees that reviews on platforms like Glassdoor are helpful for conveying their experiences working at RETTEW, good and bad. Those reminders always encouraged open, authentic input. We stand by our commitment to respectful dialogue and to rebuilding trust through action, not rumor. We know not every workplace is the right fit for everyone, and we wish anyone moving on continued success. We’re focused on listening, improving communication, and shaping the company’s future.
