A Culture of Ownership in Name Only

Pros

The company strongly emphasizes its identity as an employee-owned firm, which provides a unique opportunity to be part of something that feels larger than just a day job. There’s a consistent narrative around collaboration, alignment, and collective success, and the messaging is extremely consistent across all internal communications. At surface level, it’s a great environment for those who are energized by mission statements, vision decks, and frequent reaffirmations of core values. Workflows tend to be fluid, and priorities are often reshuffled to ensure a dynamic operational tempo. While formal mentorship structures may be ambiguous, employee-owners are encouraged to take initiative within their defined lanes—although those lanes can shift depending on the week. The leadership team places high importance on visibility, ensuring that messaging is both top-down and self-reinforcing. You’ll find ample opportunities to engage with communication platforms, alignment meetings, and values-driven initiatives that reinforce the feeling of being part of a high-functioning machine—regardless of whether your input affects anything meaningful.

Cons

While the term “employee-owner” is frequently invoked, its practical impact remains largely symbolic. The title suggests shared governance and mutual investment, but actual decision-making remains firmly concentrated among a select few at the top. Employee feedback is routinely solicited but rarely actioned in a way that materially affects workflows, policies, or strategic direction. The language of ownership is used less as a tool for empowerment and more as a branding exercise to foster buy-in without meaningful agency. Day-to-day operations can feel reactive, with shifting priorities often justified by vague appeals to “alignment” or “market forces.” Project management structures are in place, but often overridden by executive direction with little warning. This results in a tendency toward burnout cycles, where enthusiasm is extracted until capacity runs dry, followed by abrupt organizational pivots. Despite being labeled as valued contributors, many employee-owners find themselves operating in roles with minimal upward visibility, negligible autonomy, and little clarity around long-term growth.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. At RETTEW, we are proud to be a 100% employee-owned company, and we recognize that true ownership means more than just financial participation—it means ensuring that employee voices are heard and valued. While we’ve made progress in strengthening communication and alignment, we acknowledge there’s always more we can do to bridge the gap between messaging and action. Your feedback will be shared with our leadership team as we continue evolving our structure and practices to reflect the spirit of ownership we promote.

Looks like management is leaving reviews

Pros

I work with a decent team, we work well together and get our projects done. For the most part I can be proud of the work I do at RETTEW. The company does well to keep us informed of the company health with quarterly, transparent updates which I've never seen elsewhere.

Cons

I read through some of the more recent reviews here and I was going to leave a 3 star review since my feelings are mixed, but I decided to change that to 1 star after seeing what was obviously reviews really look like they are being left by management to offset the negative reviews. Management isn't listening to all of the employees that have an issue with returning to the office. They are going to be forming a committee in response to our concerns. They formed committees in the past for similar reasons and ultimately nothing came from those actions. It is a bandaid solution to make us feel better, that they are taking action and listening when they aren't.

We’re sorry to hear that your trust in leadership has been affected. At RETTEW, we aim to foster open and honest dialogue with all employee-owners. We also take all feedback seriously—whether shared in a town hall, submitted directly, or posted anonymously. Our leadership team is reviewing every comment we’ve received about the return-to-office transition and is working to ensure that follow-up actions are meaningful and not symbolic. While we may not always get everything right, we are committed to learning and growing from your input.

Differences in Opinions

Pros

Reading some of the recent posts about RETTEW i stand firmly on the other side of. RETTEW has always and still holds a fantastic culture at the foundation of its existence. The recent anxiety behind moving to a hybrid schedule (3 days a week) in office has brought forward differing opinions that quickly look past the benefit they received for the past 5 + years of working 100% remote. Bottom line, there are justified reasons to coming back into the office a few days a week to further grow the business, increase the mentorship capabilities, and garner a further collaborative and healthy interactive space where both internal and external relationships and learning experiences can flourish. Doesn't seem like such a bad scenario in my opinion and there are employees within the organization that are looking forward to the change. I'll note as well that the organization is still maintaining and further emphasizing their value of "FLEXIBILITY" and accommodating personal schedules on a realistic basis through not only their hybrid model but as they did prior to and during COVID. Additional Pros: - Competitive Pay and Benefits - Offer ESOP stock and 401K - Competitive PTO and Sick Time - PTO roll over and payout - Employee Centric and Open Door Policy - Flexible - Relationship Focused

Cons

- People spread false narratives and negative perspectives that aren't shared by all employees withing the organization intentionally trying to further undermine an already contentious consideration. To those that choose this route, step up and consider being a leader in the moment and consider other opinions may exist besides your own.
