Correct focus. The school is aiming for the top. They are allocating resources toward achieving that.

Cons

Like all organizations there is a mixed bag of differently levels of talent and motivation. However, it seems that in general the over all mix tends toward high-quality.

- good salary with respect to the job market - lots of support tools and resources for teaching - ok medical benefits

Cons

- ideology of students as "clients" and professors as "customer service providers" seriously affect the stand and respect for faculty - few minority faculty make it throught he system; hiring numbers are up but tenure and retention are low -intense quarter system,...plus some times different course sections (with different course number) are assigned to the same classroom, so the faculty ends up teaching more sections than originally planned

Limited opportunities for advancement. Pay low compared to corporate jobs. Expert culture and siloed environment. Limited staffing given the responsibilities.
