Pros
It is very possible to excel relative to your peers in this position and show your worth as long as you are under a good team lead. Decent first job because you are exposed to an application that was designed with very clear lines and design patterns. You get a lot of exposure to the financial industry and the inner workings of a bank or brokerage. You also get exposed to a decent amount of SQL. This company is very stable and will be around for a long time. The location is super central and accessible by subway and GO train. Overtime is paid and GRSP is a bonus.
Cons
Technology is very outdated. The software being developed is not complex and is a giant state machine. You can learn basic Java here, but skills and knowledge learned here is not transferable to other software jobs since what allows you to excel is business knowledge and not technical prowess. Working here for a long time will be a disadvantage because there will be high years of experience but no real technical improvement to put on your CV. Work culture puts a lot of pressure on developers where there's a lot of blaming and finger pointing as opposed to working collaboratively which does not create the best work environment. There's a lot of manual testing required. Compensation for developers is low for Toronto.
