Pros

- Most projects broaden your skillset in bleeding-edge tech stacks - Plenty of opportunities to lead projects and communicate with clients - Lots of trust in engineers to be autonomous and decide on the best solution - Reliable senior engineers and architects - Clientele comes to RTS looking for modern solutions, so the projects are often interesting - Modern, open office space - Good work-life balance - Flexible hours - Free snacks - Decent pay - You can request as much equipment as you think you'll need - Leadership tries to be better - People are generally nice and easy to work with - Open-door communication applies to everyone, including the CEO

Cons

- Too many projects are staffed per project manager - Projects tend become self-led because project managers are spread thin, which creates a trial-and-error approach towards technology solutions - Project timelines and limited budgets can lead to weak engineering principles - Limited engineers staffed to a project requires them to dedicate time to non-engineering tasks, like being the sole voice for project estimations, creating design docs, preparing communication materials, ticket grooming, etc. - Lacking regard for QA and testing, meeting project timelines as the cost of deliverable stability - Heavy scrutiny on billable vs unbillable timesheet entries, leading to confusion when working on multiple projects for the same client - Project managers cannot focus on any single project to understand what their team is doing, requiring client communications to even include junior engineers who may not know when to (or that they can) push back - More attention is paid to client happiness over engineer happiness - Growing pains, resulting in increased attrition, multiple process changes, shifting from a flat to a hierarchical org, reduced transparency, shifting away from old tech stacks, etc. - Pay is bottlenecked due to the project-based nature of the company, reducing competitiveness in a remote job pool - Only uses the free slack version, so any over-explanations on existing issues must be re-explained at a later date

Pros

Snacks are nice. Office is in a great location. If you're a junior dev, you still have opportunities to spearhead projects

Cons

Throws junior devs into the deep-end with little support, expecting them to nearly lead entire projects. Terrible compensation for any experience level. I literally doubled my salary when I left RTS. CEO micro-manages and preens over how good he is to his employees for like, offering an extra day off at Thanksgiving. Poor gender diversity. When I started, there were a ton of women. By the time I left, I was one of 3 female engineers.

Thank you for your thoughtful review, and clearly I let you down during your time at RTS. I do appreciate your feedback as it will help with our continuous improvement efforts and move the company forward. We would also like to restate some facts about working at RTS Labs: * We believe we pay fairly, and in most cases higher than the market depending upon experience and performance. We use PayFactors and market data to confirm that we are paying competitive market-level salaries. We are also trying our best to stay ahead of post-pandemic compensation changes and remote work. * We have good healthcare benefits that include medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance along with a generous 401K match. * More than 20% of our workforce is women, and I agree, we have more work to do. I have challenged my team to increase that number by 10% next year! * For all new employees at RTS we offer a formal mentoring and buddy system to get you quickly acclimated to your RTS work life. * Our new program called, New Hire Guild has earned praises from other companies. * We conduct regular check-ins with all employees, typically monthly, but more or less frequent depending on your preferences. I find it hard to believe that we never heard you in your three-plus years at RTS. * Every project has a Lead supported by a Scrum Master and a Project Manager and they go through ongoing training to support feedback and learn how to help engineers. * We conduct an every-Friday standup with open commentary from anyone. We also have an anonymous Slack channel where employees can confidentially share any concerns or other important issues. Again, we appreciate your input and we are sorry your time at RTS was not as positive as you hoped it would be. We will take your feedback and push even harder. Personally, I will push harder to be a better leader.

Pros

There's plenty of swag, snacks, and the events are fun. The pay is competitive in the industry.

Cons

The whole place is mismanaged from the top down. They operate like a startup, but a "flat structure" (which they are only on paper - the politics are still very much there) does NOT work when you reach a certain number of employees. Most of the project managers seem like a joke. They may be fine, but they're tasked with so many different projects at once, they can't give any one project the attention it needs to not be a total dumpster fire.
