Pros

Yankee Leisure Group has personally afforded me amazing opportunities to grow. I've moved from a member of our sales team, to managing a sales team, to product development, to overseeing a global sales team. to even moving abroad and managing an office overseas. The most exciting aspect of that is how many such similar stories of development and success our team members share. For all of us, a common factor was not just a willingness but a desire to ask for challenges and get out of our comfort zones. That proactive approach to learning and the support of our leadership who are always eager to guide anyone eager to grow has opened doors and opportunities faster than anything. Experience plays its part but talent and initiative more so. Don't wait for someone to hand you a promotion, responsibility or career or rely on tenure to get you there. On our team, being a perpetual student on your own paves the way, then the promotions and opportunities always come naturally. The company is also highly adaptive. In boom times I've always loved how quickly we can grow because not being set in our ways as well as quick to spot an opportunity and jump on it is embedded in our corporate DNA and culture. Much of that growth and change is driven by our team and YLG is definitely committed to great ideas whether they come from leadership, down to our management and veterans, all the way to the newest team members. All great ideas are highly sought after and put to use whenever possible. On a personal level, I've also never been part of a team in the business world that really does achieve work/life balance as YLG does. I've worked for others who speak to it and most really try but fall short. Having a family and a career but keeping the professional and personal spheres in healthy balance isn't something YLG just figured out in the current environment. It's been a positive of working here for years. The customers, the needs of the business and the hard work that goes with those are a given but so is the importance of family and I have ALWAYS been supported in this by Yankee Leisure Group.

Cons

Being a small company that's eager to grow, you have to truly love change to get the most out of your time at YLG. Every year that I've been a member of this family, we've grown. The current year is no different when it comes to learning and building for the future even in a challenging environment. If you are looking for somewhere cozy to land, we may not be the team for you. As I mentioned above, we are restless when it comes to our business. We not only accept change as necessity, we embrace our constant evolution whole-heartedly. If that is exciting to you, you will succeed here. If not, you won't achieve the same success that is possible for others. This isn't a CON for me, but it can be problematic for prospective team members looking for something that isn't fast-paced or highly dynamic.

If you’re okay with overtime

Pros

Management wants you to grow and they are helpful. Get promoted or transferred to where you want to go relatively quickly.

Cons

Not all the managers know HR and you have to watch out for yourself... Pay W commission is low compared to other sales jobs but at least it’s a fun product to sell. They expect a lot sometimes which can be bad if you don’t have the proper time allotted to get stuff done. Overtime is very common and may be required once a week due to sales meetings, so ask them about it.

The development of our staff is crucial to us and career progression is something many of our employees have benefited from. It is true that progression and promotion will require hard work, dedication and at times a need to go the extra mile. However, please remember the open door policy we have and if you feel you need help managing your workload or are overstretched, please do reach out so we can assist you. Regarding overtime, all overtime offered and paid based on customer demand. We make sure any applicants are aware of potential overtime before they start, as you stated. I appreciate your comments regarding commission and our commission structure is something we have continuously improved over the past few years to further support our staff and will continue to monitor closely. I am glad to hear you enjoy selling our product, many of our employees join our company because of the positivity that surrounds working in the travel industry. Selling travel should be fun as we are creating experiences and memories for our customers that will last a lifetime. I appreciate your point on management and agree. Listening to employees and creating an environment where you feel supported is a requirement of all managers and we will continue to train and improve especially in these times with all of us worldwide working remotely from home.
