Pros

Learned so much about train travel and creating spectacular dream vacations for clients...I will take my experiences to further my career. Due to CV19, I was laid off.

Cons

It was an interesting journey, to say the least. However, enjoyed most of my time there.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review, writing this after having been laid off due to CV19 is a testament to your character. It is with great sadness that the outbreak of CV19 and the global challenges this has brought have led to the loss of jobs here at Railbookers but I am heartened by your comment that you will use your experiences here to help further your career. I am glad you enjoyed the majority of your time and took the pleasure we all do out of creating those amazing vacations for our clients. Your advice to management is well noted and we will continue to improve and I have passed your comments on to our management team. I wish you all the best in your future career and thank you again for the time you have taken to post this review. Sam Bridge General Manager- Railbookers UK

Pros

- You have a job... where you are busy nearly every minute of your day with never-ending busy work, so there's that. - Familiarization aka FAM trips were a fun opportunity... before they changed the rules to hold you financially responsible for the employee "perk" should you move away or leave the organization.

Cons

- Small family run business. To succeed here, you must 100% subscribe to their old school way of thinking and selling. You may find yourself having to agree with a lot of what upper management has to say despite the consequences in order to get ahead. In fact, the company held a full "training" session for every employee in every department to learn how to manage a workday the company's way. It covered office analogies, how a calendar works, and how to write notes... needless to say it was a waste of time. - Toxic, competitive atmosphere. A dog-eat-dog culture like the one that exists at Yankee Leisure only leads to unhappy people. Employees were found crying in the hallway from time to time. - Few growth opportunities. Make no mistake about it, the company will gladly tout that they promote from within, but often times talented employees with longstanding careers and experience must compete with less experienced newcomers for the very few job growth opportunities there are. - High pressure work environment. There is plenty of pressure from upper management to perform week after week without access to adequate training or support. - Rude middle management. It was not rare to witness middle management berate their subordinates and make them cry for small mistakes like not selling trip insurance... or sometimes for no reason at all.

Thank you for taking the time to share about your time with Yankee Leisure Group. We always value the feedback from all former employees and are constantly aiming to improve as we aren’t perfect. That being said, there are some points in your review that I will address as I see them very differently. You say you felt you had to agree 100% of the time with management to get ahead. That could not be more different than my experience. Personally, I not only feel comfortable sharing a differing opinion with my superiors, but I also actively encourage that sort of healthy discussion with my team. Far from your belief that agreement is forced in some way, I think open, candid dialogue is a hallmark of Yankee Leisure. I was surprised to see your objection to some of the training available to our staff. Skills training like the organization and planning skills session you mention are something we take pride in. We often find staff embarking on their careers and we place great value on advancing all their professional skills including fundamentals. These training opportunities have proven so valuable and have been so much appreciated that at the request of our team, we have expanded this to a full professional development series covering a range of professional skills from basic office software and organization skills on up to marketing, relationship building, and project management to name just a few. This may not be an area you had interest in but overwhelmingly your peers are asking for these learning opportunities and we are happy to invest that time developing every member of our team who is eager to learn and grow. As for opportunities for advancement, they are very real. When you look around an entire office team and see half or more of the staff have been promoted within the company, opportunity is obvious. It’s true that we are always looking for talent and it’s not about time in, it’s about ability, hard work and commitment. You don’t have to “get in line” behind everyone who arrived earlier than you when it comes to advancement. Maybe based your previous point about how you felt about training and learning new things and it “was a waste of time” maybe one of the reasons you could have been passed over for a possible opportunity you may have gone for. My suggestion no matter where you go, what career field you choose is always be open to learning new things as it helps advance your career. Again, I do appreciate your review. Please feel free to reach out any time if you’d like to discuss your experience. Andy Channell Vice President of Product 978-867-1122

Ahead of the Curve

Pros

YLG has been a great place of employment for me and many others. As many others have said in their reviews, Management promotes growth within the company and offers different training opportunities for those who are willing to take them. Perks of working in the travel industry, you get to travel! YLG provides annual FAM trip opportunities where the entire company can take one of the trips that we offer. It’s a great way to meet co-workers in other offices and experience destinations you my never have been able to otherwise. The company is constantly ahead of the curve and looking for new ways to improve themselves, the technology, the working environment etc. This is especially evident with the current COVID environment where all employees are required to work from home. I have never seen a company have such a smooth and positive transition. If anything, the COVID situation has made all the employees and management stronger together. Overall, I truly believe this is a great place to work for those who are looking to invest themselves in a company that is ready to invest in them back. I am so proud to be part of this team.

Cons

The fast-paced work environment is not for everyone but for those who can embrace it and learn from it really do succeed.

Thank you very much for your comments and kind words about your experience with YLG. We are extremely happy know that our efforts during this difficult time with COVID-19 have been impactful. YLG is proud to have the team we have today and how we are able to promote so many from within. We are able to do so by offering cross-training opportunities. We encourage our employees to express their interests and aspirations so management can set goals to help achieve them. Familiarization Trips is certainly one of many benefits that we are proud to offer at YLG. This allows employees to see first-hand what our customers experience and find ways how we can make it even better! So much knowledge is gained from our employees traveling on the trips our customers take. We are very lucky to have a large group of leaders at YLG that continuously evaluate and collaborate how to stay ahead of the curve, as you said. As you stated, the fast-paced work environment is not for everyone. The company, even pre-COVID, is always and adapting and growing, which means no day is ever the same. Our customers are most important to us and must evolve to match their needs. Thank you again for your review and for being valuable part of our team!
