Pros

Most of the employees are super nice and can become great friends. For someone living on the North Shore, the commute is convenient compared to Boston.

Cons

Don't believe the positive reviews on this page. They are written by management every time a true and realistic review shows up. Management is clueless and downright mean spirited. Don't let them fool you - everyone is in it for their own gain and will step on you over and over to make sure they rise to the top. This includes Directors and above. Amtrak is a dying form of travel which makes the tours increasingly hard to sell. They make you flat out lie to customers to take their money. Sales goals are so ridiculously unattainable. If you aren't part of "the club", they will force you out so quickly. The majority of the staff hasn't traveled to any of the destinations they sell and therefore have to make things up. They keep claiming they are growing, but they are still a tiny travel company that can barely sell their overpriced tours.

Pros

This is an amazing growing company! If you're ambitious, focused and love to travel. The company has grown tremendously in the pas few years, so plenty of opportunity exists to further your career.

Cons

Some employees are not ambitious and are not looking at the bigger picture. The only downside is having to hear the negativity of some of the employees. Some wear their emotions on their sleeve.

Pros

Some of the people I met working there have become life long friends. Convenient location. Travel.

Cons

I was there for many years and saw alot of changes. Loyalty means nothing to upper management. There were times you had to work a 10 hour day with no break, but they bought you lunch so it was "ok". They basically suck the life out of you! The management doesn't appreciate your hard work or the knowledge obtained. Amtrak is a difficult mode of transportation to sell and you really have to have a complete understanding of it to sell it right. They are so sales focused that they don't care if you sell the product wrong as long as you close the sale. There were times that I went home feeling terrible for taking hardworking people's money, knowing that their vacation was going to be less then prefect! Upper management acts like they don't have time and really could care less about their employees. You only get ahead by being a yes person and a brown noser! Don't plan on making this job your career. As soon as you disagree or try to give your opinion, they will lay you off. This company's unemployment record must be through the roof!
