Pros

Compensation. Salaries consistently at the top end of industry averages, but they take it out of your soul later. Rain Bird provides an excellent opportunity to work, though temporarily, with some of the most qualified and experienced professionals. New hires have master's degrees, certifications, 10 plus years of experience and industry accomplishments under their belt. Unfortunately these people are your colleagues and not your managers and their careers at the Bird are short lived. However, you will get a brief opportunity to learn from and associate with some truly talented people.

Cons

Strategic goals set by the senior management vary from quarter to quarter. The "number one priority" changes from week to week and the company has no direction for lasting improvement. A core objective is "results are all that matter." This has created a culture where, in management's eyes, the end justifies the means. Managers can falsify numbers, use questionable mathematical formulas, and sacrifice truly meaningful improvements to meet temporary objectives and still win favor with senior management.

Pros

The money is good and you are well paid for the irrigation industry. If you are an irrigation industry professional or this is where your future lies, then Rain Bird is a high paying employer.

Cons

I have not gotten a good nights sleep in over a year. Very extensive travel, and product manager do everything, financials, logistics, new product development, marketing communications, customer service, etc. You are spread way too thin.

Pros

The salary and benefits are okay. However, that is not a good enough reason to work with no job security in an unfriendly atmosphere.

Cons

Top management is incompetent and haughty. It is based on the "good old boy" network. There is little comeraderie among employees. There is a definite "us vs. them" feeling between lower level and top level management/employees. It is appalling the way that people are given the ax time after time - the entire operation is slowly moving to Mexico for cheaper labor. There is no job placement help for those that are let go. Managers quite often steal ideas from other employees and get credit and recognition that they don't deserve.
