Pros

As a Redfin agent you do receive lots of leads and get a monthly salary with benefits for you and your family.

Cons

The leads don't transcend into dollars for the agents, only dollars for the company. The customer rebate is greater than what the real estate agent is paid for their bonus based solely on a client survey and sales prices of a home. The monthly salary for agents is minuscule and Redfin agents are definitely not the best paid agents in the industry. Redfin advertises their agents as having a team but the team is only looking out for themselves. Blocking out your schedule so you are never available to work/tour clients is not the team approach, in my opinion. In my experience as a Redfin agent, your team stabs you in the back whenever they have an opportunity.

Call it an internship, not a career

Pros

Insurance, diverse client interaction (First time buyers, affluent, young, mature), Learning the real estate business, Some flexibility.

Cons

I would have given my real estate career to Redfin. Unfortunately, although the pitch is great, after a while the curtain gets pulled back and you see backstage. I simply stopped believing it's in the clients best interest to use Redfin. Agents are spread across much too wide of an area to ever really know a great buy or guide the client. I remember feeling so blind, so many times. If it wasn't for the listing agent, the client would be left clueless to an area. When your agent knows an area, they can actually negotiate on your behalf, not just take instructions. The rebate isn't worth it for what most clients leave on the table. An older gentleman once told me - young man, remember this, cheap things are seldom good and good things are seldom cheap. I don't think you should try to save a couple thousand or even more when investing in real estate. When this became a firm belief, I could no longer work at Redfin.

Pros

Health insurance, paid MLS dues.

Cons

My time at Redfin was extremely stressful and unrewarding. Redfin expects you to work with 4x the client load of a traditional agent for less then 1/6 of the pay per transaction. They say that on average a Redfin agent makes more then the "average" traditional agent... this *could* be true, though what they do not tell you is that you will be making FAR less then what agents less then half of the workload bring home. You are constantly pressured to produce more, and take on clients that you are uncomfortable with and that are not a "good fit" just so that management can hit their profit and loss numbers. If by chance one of these clients does not like the service that you provide, or you are unable to get them a price they are happy with they are allowed to slam you in a public review posted on the website- and your already low pay will be docked. Interestingly enough the company actually retains more money when this occurs. They pretend to be all about customer satisfaction and agent happiness when truly they are more about the profits then any other company I have worked for in my 9 years in the business. Most of the decision makers at the company have little to no real estate experience- nor do most of their agents. Their perceived success relies on the rebates, not the quality of service they provide. It is extremely difficult to provide quality service under the Redfin model without working 60 to 90 plus hours a week. The review stating be prepared to miss your child's birth was not at all incorrect. They pretend to be all about work life balance- ask any agent that works there, this so far from the truth that it is comical. They spent thousands of dollars making a video about this, but then pile on additional agent responsibilities w no increase in pay on a regular basis. They will continue to promise that " things are getting better, and that they are working on things" when in all reality they are not. Bottom line - if you have any experience in real estate RUN AWAY.
