Pros

The culture is pretty relaxed, for the most part. As long as deadlines are met and you work 40 hours a week, no one really cares about when the work gets done.

Cons

One of the biggest complaints is the lack of overtime pay. Often times we are expected to work overtime but there is little to no incentive. We are compensated slightly in the form of comp days but that is up to your supervisors discretion and ReelFX must "approve" your days off. I personally have never received any comp days.

Pros

Reelfx has many knowledgeable people who are also great to work with. There is a real sense of community among everyone and a desire to share and grown knowledge.

Cons

Still some trouble bringing in new people as quickly as is needed sometimes, and this can put unneeded pressure on individual team members who have a broad knowledge base.

Pros

Texas has a low cost of living, so it is easier to buy a house here than in L.A. or New York. The rank and file are genuinely enthusiastic about movies, animation, their work, etc.

Cons

No overtime, no comp time, very little compensation for the overly frequent crunch times. Projects are grossly underbid in order to land them, and then managed by production management teams that admit they don't know much about the work being done. The company will lie to clients when they cannot deliver on their promises, leaving workers feeling slimy. Senior management are standoff-ish at best, aloof and rude more often. Company sells itself as a family-friendly studio where you get ownership, except that you never get to see your family with the long hours and they stopped offering stock options years ago.
