Pros

-If you're looking to get into a tech company and gain experience to move on to something better, it's a pretty nice starter. -Ability to attend conferences and trainings to get better -gym onsite -The Benefits (insurance, 401k) are tough to top -financially stable company (Bertelsmann acquisition was an incredible accomplishment) -Product exists mostly in markets where the competition is less sophisticated and where training is vital. -The lack of manager expertise (noted in cons) allows for up-and-coming employees to think for themselves and learn on the fly.

Cons

-90% of the managers I interacted with had oversized egos that often got in the way of productivity. A lot of them are also wildly unqualified to be managers. -Promotions and recognition have more to do with popularity and how loud you talk than actually accomplishing things. During my time at Relias, I often encountered managers who had no expertise in their department, and relied too heavily on their employees under them to steer the ship. -Unhealthy debate and "my way or the highway" sensibilities. The primary reason I left Relias was because every time I approached the team with a different way of thinking or a suggestion to someone's idea, it was seen more as an attack or a way of trying to tell them how to do their job. I felt management was beginning to stockpile quiet introverts so they could carry out their ideas without question. Opinions are 'asked' for, but I rarely knew a time they were appreciated. -The above comment would cause friction between depts and sub depts. Collaboration=my idea has to win. -Departmental egos were ridiculous. Everything has to be run through Product Management--who has this craving need to own everything every department does. My department was actually shut out from speaking to another department by them completely. -Pay is below industry standards. at one point I was making 1/3 of my open market value. This is common as Relias pays low an offers the ability to dip your hands in multiple projects. (the experience piece of this is actually a great pro). -The product could use an update. I never found the LMS very intuitive. The historical course content is brutally boring. But they are making some strides in this area. -Artificial, self-serving environment.

Thank you for the extremely detailed response. You listed some great positive aspects of working here including the Bertelsmann acquisition last year. That gives our company the resources (time and knowledge) to do things we wouldn't have been able to do before. Agreed on the other pros as well. The benefits, the facility, and the product/industry are all great selling points. Sorry to hear about your experience with some of the management staff. Clearly not the impression we want people to take away and hopefully it was a case of miscommunication or understanding. As for the departmental communication we're looking for ways to improve that. We understand that's an area of development and it's a focal point for the company. We're confident we're going to make strides with this over the coming months. Thanks again for taking the time. We're glad you shared your thoughts with us.

Pros

Relias is full of extremely intelligent people, so each day you are stimulated in different ways and are constantly learning new things. The executive team is great at being transparent to employees- monthly/quarterly all hands calls allow for everyone to know what our strategic plans and struggles are. Benefits are stellar- switching to unlimited PTO, outstanding 401k match, paid volunteer days, etc. There are plenty of career advancement opportunities when you have mastered your current role; leadership is great at identifying talented individuals and moving them up. With the anticipated growth, it's an exciting place to be as these promotions begin. Lastly, the culture is fantastic- passionate people that like to have fun!

Cons

Inter-departmental communication could be better so messages are the same across the board and projects run smoother. Some of the wages fall below the industry standard, but if you're looking for a place with career advancement opportunities and great culture, this seems to be a fair trade off!

Thanks for the great review! You provided a lot of great information and we appreciate that. Our hiring teams do a pretty thorough job of finding people who are problem solvers and can work well under pressure; something that is evaluated in our pre-employment assessments. This helps us create that stimulating work environment where people are constantly being challenged and learning new things. Thanks for the note regarding the benefits, the executive transparency, and growth opportunities. All very true. We appreciate the constructive feedback regarding communication between departments. We're hopeful that will improve over the next 3-6 months with adding some other key leaders to the company. If you have anything else you'd like to share feel free to email us at recruitment@reliaslearning.com. Thanks again for the review!

Solid place to show up everyday

Pros

Great industry to be a part of, product is pretty cool, and I get the sense we're actually making a difference in people's lives. No longer part of a private equity firm which is reassuring and growth projections seem to be really positive. The best part of this company is the people who work here and the environment / culture that has been created. Medical benefits are pretty good but the 6% 401k match, unlimited PTO, and 2 days off to do volunteer work are all nice to see. Company has been transparent since the day I started working here. They hold monthly "All Hands Meetings" where the CEO and other executives talk about what's been happening over the last month. Relias seems to make a genuine attempt to promote people from within if possible. Otherwise they look externally.

Cons

High deductible HSA plan works for most people but not everyone. Wish there was another option to choose from but at least the company contributes to your HSA account every month. The office space is good but would be better if the entire company was on the same floor or at least not separated the way it is. Trivial, but I agree with someone else on the oranges. Those need to be taken from the fresh fruit order. People only eat the apples and bananas.

Thanks for taking the time to write up a review. We appreciate that. Love hearing all the positive experiences you are having working here. People, culture, benefits, transparency, and advancement opportunities are some of the biggest incentives for working at Relias. As for the medical coverage, hopefully the new benefits package (effective 1/1/2016) will be a better fit for you or at least you'll enjoy the fact that our health care costs aren't going up! The office space is something that is constantly being evaluated as we continue to grow. Stay tuned for some updates there. As for the oranges, well, we're all crossing our fingers for some improvement there. Thanks again for the review. It is really appreciated.
