Pros
From a high level, Remix is a rare find. It's an opportunity to give back to your community, your country, and the world by helping plan better transit. It's truly important work, and invigorating to know and see that your contributions are making a measurable difference. The tools used by transit planners in the past are antiquated and painfully time-consuming. Remix is a total game-changer. It's revolutionizing they way that cities plan, modify, and optimize their transit systems, and is very quickly becoming the gold-standard. The company is doing very well from a numbers perspective, and the customer base loves the product. The sky is truly the limit and I couldn't be more optimistic about our future.
The day-to-day: each day brings with it new surprises, successes, and interesting challenges. Everyone in the office has a sharp intellect, a passion for transit, and brings a wealth of real-world experience to the team. It's a pretty tight-knit organization, and the team values collaboration and transparency. We don't just say it, we mean it and practice it each day. I'm consistently impressed by how intelligent and experienced everyone is - not just in terms of transit, but life in general.
Confucius said, "if you are the smartest person in the room, then you are in the wrong room." At Remix, I don't think any of us are in the "wrong room," so to speak.
Benefits: delicious catered lunches 2x/week, free monthly Muni pass, Macbook Air, unlimited PTO (get your work done), and tasty snack options. The office space is really cool - loft/warehouse feel with huge windows and tons of natural light. Moving offices within the quarter and know it will be awesome - that's something you can expect with so many designers on board.
Cons
Not a con in my book, but everyone tends to work pretty long hours. There's a lot of work to be done, and everyone on the team takes accountability for their obligations. I personally see it as a plus, but prospective employees should understand this isn't somewhere to work and slack off. Come here to work hard, solve real problems, and grow your career. Don't come here to coast and be satisfied with complacency. We don't half-ass things at Remix. That said, there is no micromanagement - everyone is treated fairly and reasonably.
Also not a con - but the company operates on open and direct feedback --> it can be startling at first, but it's actually a strength.
