What Could Have Been

Pros

Prior to the acquisition this would have been a very different review. The company was on the up swing, there were things that were moving in a good direction, the company had momentum. Bill Okun was an awesome CEO, and the product was being built into something that was really cool and differentiated. There were and are good people here, and that is the biggest positive that is left after the acquisition. The product is interesting, and clients that get the data part of the industry love it, but the people should be the takeaway.

Cons

Post acquisition, this company has fallen apart. Most people have left - 120 employees down to 70 and dropping - and that is without a layoff or anything. Altus was woefully unprepared to take over, and has little understanding of the true CRE landscape from a data perspective. There is a grander vision here, but the current leadership at Altus has made that vision improbable and more likely an impossibility. Their sales team is a mess, and on the Reonomy side of things there are 5 sellers left down from over 20-30 prior to the acquisition. The sales leadership at Altus has not attempted to properly integrate the sales people at Reonomy and that has directly led to people leaving in droves. They didn't release a comp plan or commission schedule until a week before the end of Q1, and they increased quotas for folks to a degree where there is no one on the team that had ever sold that amount before. The product is now at a standstill. There were a ton of Q1/Q2 product plans in motion, and with the amount of developers from Reonomy that have left there is now not enough people to support the wider plans to make the product what we were hoping it would be.

Pros

work is interesting with numerous learning opportunities compensation is good with decent benefits work-life-balance is great direct management cares very flexible working conditions and remote friendly team coworkers are all extremely bright and a pleasure to work with

Cons

Acquisitions are generally rough - this one was probably a little more due to the acquiring company going through change themselves at the time of integration. Some teams in RND have seen a big shift in culture and process while others have not had the same experience. There has also been attrition due to the acquisition (but management is back-filling) which is always rough short term. Some departments outside of RND have seen significant attrition which is unfortunate. Typical cons that come with a large firm are present here - more bureaucracy, disorganized teams/workflows, lack of visibility at a higher level, engineering is farther away from the customer, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary for a large firm.
