Disappointing Sales Experience

Benefits and 401k matching were outstanding, and the commission structure while I was there was acceptable. The company also covered gas mileage and provided a phone.

Cons

Base salary was relatively poor. Communication between sales reps and management was often lacking. Conference calls with upper management were often long and out of line with the experiences of sales reps (e.g., claiming customers were satisfied with service while sales reps constantly had to put out fires regarding missed or poor service or pricing discrepancies). A few managers/supervisors treated sales reps remarkably poorly, ranging from talking negatively about them to other reps to outright sexual harassment. Reps received little help from management, but management was keen to come on ride-alongs, oftentimes ruining rapport that the sales reps had established with potential clients. Hiring practices were suspect: While I was there, the company ran through 4 or 5 outside sales reps, all of whom either quit or were fired for poor performance.

Seemed like a good thing in the beginning...

Pros

Stable industry. Everyone produces waste/trash/recycling. Everyone has a need for it to be removed.

Cons

Poor management in my particular division . Abusive price increases. Poor work-life balance. The company says they promote work-life balance, but with the actual workload it is impossible to separate the two without neglecting your family or falling behind at work. Decreasing pay. Bait and switch...the job description, base pay, and bonus in my 2014 offer letter have all changed (for the worse).

They are a Very safety conscious company,. Sometimes to the extreme though. The pay was pretty good if you can make it into a rolloff truck.

Cons

Good old boy network at its finest, especially down here in the south. They'll deny you being hurt on the job especially if you wait a couple days . Im not talking like broken bones,bleeding, but a back being sore. We all go home sore sometimes especially in a physical job like that. But since I didnt tell them on Friday and called out monday cuz I couldnt walk, they said it happend over the weekend. They'll do you wrong pretty quick,unless you're in that click back at the yard with the boss.
