Best Company Ever

Pros

Plenty of growth opportunities and a real work life balance. I have never before worked for a company where management actually listened to the feedback of the employees. The “open door” policy combined with the remote environment is truly an awesome experience that makes me feel important.

Cons

Being remote, you really have to communicate you whereabouts to be held accountable for your responsibilities. This is not a con, but should reflect your own professional demeanor.

Challenging & Rewarding

Pros

I have been working for Resident since the start of the company for over 3 years now. Working here has some amazing highs that will make you never want to leave. It has truly been one of the most challenging experiences as well as the greatest work experience of my career. There is truly a sense of family here if you put in the time and effort to make this place feel like home. You will never be bored or find yourself asking what do I do next. If you are looking for a place to grow your talents behind an outstanding team then this is the place to be. You will be challenged into responsibilities and new opportunities weekly. Everyone is given an immense amount of autonomy within their roles. If you truly believe in what you are doing you can not only grow your own role at this company but you will see the company grow alongside you.

Cons

There are some major challenges that come with working for such a fast-paced company. Rather than make a laundry list of all the bad I will address a few things that can be a deterrent for those who are not ready for it. 1. This is a growth-based company. That means no matter what your role is it will be measured by data and performance. Unlike other companies, you won't just have a job and a title because other tech companies have them. You earn your role here which can be very challenging for some. 2. Performance>Brand. Along with the first, this can also be a deterrent for some. The company is focused on performance and that means sometimes building a brand can take the back burner in terms of focus. This can be challenging for anyone working in a creative role from a traditional company. 3. Its a startup. If you have never worked for a startup your in for a wild ride. Startups are hard, you have to take lots of ownership around your role and responsibilities and if the company takes a hit some times that means your job will take a hit.

Bewildering Incompetence Across The Board

Pros

Free mattress, after three months of employment.

Cons

Utterly abysmal upper-level management with zero direction in sight. An absolutely atrocious HR department, whom even had the nerve to post "current" Glassdoor photos months after half the people pictured were downsized. Just one example of the dizzying degree of spinelessness offered on a regular basis. Resident has gone through multi-round, quarterly mass lay-offs en route to a last chance, hail mary effort for a hypothetical fire sale. They incentivize people with vaguely written annual bonuses, which are never actually paid out. A "scrappy start-up mentality" doesn't equate to regularly laying off high performers, solely to prop up their bottom line within investor decks. The company preaches "family values," yet practices the complete opposite. Project management objectives changed on a weekly, near daily basis. Resident has one successful brand (Nectar), and the rest fell completely flat on their faces.
