Management is very opaque here. We are often given very unrealistic deadlines to work with and little explanation from management about why the deadlines are so critical. Directors never have staff meetings. CEO hasn't had an all-hands in nearly a year and never takes questions from the staff. Wendell had this crowning achievement with these big splash acquisitions of IPRO and Logikcull and had one 10-minute speech to the IT staff and no other interaction. It was this bizarre, "if you don't like it here, it's cool. Leave" message to the new employees. Apparently, many have taken this to heart.
This has changed recently in IT with the CTO starting a "Fireside Chat" being held every other week where he's tackled some of the tough questions, especially from some skeptical employees from the new acquisitions. Let's hope they keep that up.
As others have noted, management has a weird obsession with Zoom backgrounds and being on camera and I know this comes from the top. They try to promote a culture of in-office work, but then you don't really sit with your teammates in the open floor plan, and you spend every meeting on Zoom anyways since with all the acquisitions they've had, over half the employees are now remote. And the culture that is being built by being in office is often completely lost on the C-suite level. They don't seem to understand it much.
