Terrible management

Pros

Health insurance for the employee is paid and the salary is decent. Occasionally extra pay is available through overtime work. Most employees are nice people though there is no company culture to speak of.

Cons

Management, management, management! Promises and deadlines are given to clients without fully understanding scope of work and without considering the real available capacity. Numbers are just pulled from the air. C-level doesn't care about the quality of software - it needs to be "just enough" to meet the project deadline. This inevitably leads to aforementioned overtime and is also detrimental to moral (subsequently leads to blame and pointing fingers). Company is managed by BOSSES, not LEADERS. After the loss of a big client, about 10 people were fired. That was probably about 20% of the entire company. More firings occurred in the later months. Architecture of the product could be much better. Current technology stack is dated and cumbersome. "New" version of the product already feels like legacy code. "Agile" and "scrum" are practiced (or at least, attempted).

Pros

Management pushes you to continually provide better customer products, better results, better performance from the software, but how you accomplish this is mostly up to you, so there is a lot of flexibility, chances to learn and an opportunity to help move the direction of the development if the results are positive. If you have a good work ethic your work gets noticed. Flexible hours. I've never felt micromanaged, far from it. The products offered to customers are constantly evolving, so it's always challenging. Most coworkers are great people.

Cons

No matching contributions for 401K. Some lack of cohesiveness between departments and lack of operational processes and documentation likely resulting from the fast growth the company. Though your work gets noticed, performance reviews are few, you mostly have to initiate the process if you want the feedback (and salary reviews!), but then it gets done.

Good place to work and learn

Pros

Great environment to learn and practice new technologies, with a co-workers that are energetic and know the product. Working in an enterprise tool and with big clients.

Cons

Supporting legacy code that has little documentation (but slowly moving away from it). Training could improve for other areas of the company.
