Pros

prior to the UNC takeover it was one of the best places I've ever worked

Cons

since the takeover, UNC goals (primarily financial) have taken over and pushed out almost all of the senior Rex management. I left when it became apparent that money was the ONLY thing that matters to UNC. Also, benefits that were once great went under the UNC benefit system and my deductible went from 0 to $1,500 a year. The benefits plan also encouraged my moving to UNC physicians and my doctors were not part of their serviced.

Pros

UNC REX Healthcare earned top “A” grades for patient safety on the Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2017 report card. Smaller hospital focused primarily in Wake County (Raleigh). Extremely involved in the community as well through partnerships, events and volunteer opportunities. Official health care providers for the NC State Wolfpack and Carolina Hurricanes. Nurse-centric. Lots of opportunities in nursing.

Cons

UNC Health Care as a system has a major issue with overgrowth to the extent that specific entities (i.e. hospitals, primary care practices, ACO affiliates) often lack the quality and attention necessary to function effectively for the community served. Entities within the system don't work well together. Rex tends to be the red-headed stepchild". This is partially their responsibility as they prefer to function in a silo, separate of UNC Health Care System. Employee benefits marketed throughout the year come at a significant cost.
