Pros

Great staff and physicians! Warm, hospitable employees who truly care about the patients, the physicians, and the community. People take pride in their jobs and it reflects in the excellent care that is given.

Cons

There is entirely too much middle management at Rex. Departments are, unfortunately, managed by individuals who do not actually do the work, do not understand the work flow, and/or are not truly qualified to evaluate job performance because they are not registered/certified in a particular modality. There is a basic lack of communication from senior management down.

Pros

UNC REX Healthcare earned top “A” grades for patient safety on the Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2017 report card. Smaller hospital focused primarily in Wake County (Raleigh). Extremely involved in the community as well through partnerships, events and volunteer opportunities. Official health care providers for the NC State Wolfpack and Carolina Hurricanes. Nurse-centric. Lots of opportunities in nursing.

Cons

UNC Health Care as a system has a major issue with overgrowth to the extent that specific entities (i.e. hospitals, primary care practices, ACO affiliates) often lack the quality and attention necessary to function effectively for the community served. Entities within the system don't work well together. Rex tends to be the red-headed stepchild". This is partially their responsibility as they prefer to function in a silo, separate of UNC Health Care System. Employee benefits marketed throughout the year come at a significant cost.
