Toxic environment

Pros

Good place to get started on a career right out of school. Fair amount of autonomy.

Cons

Salary is below industry standards. Experienced people don’t do well here. Very clique-ish. Promotions and raises have more to do with whether you are in the clique than merit. Leadership has no idea what is going on in their company. They spend all their time talking to one another and not spend time learning about what their employees are doing. Sector leads are ‘responsible’ for too many people many of whom they have no idea what they do every day. Leaders have no management experience. Flat structure is a disaster. I heard it said before and it is true, If they decide you aren’t a good fit it is best to get out fast. Some toxic leaders contribute to a negative work environment.

Pros

Comfortable work environment, you can wear jeans and tees to work Profit share bonuses are given to all employees Merit bonuses given Annual raises Nobody micromanages you in most groups Everyone has access to training opportunities Small company

Cons

Flat structure promotes undercover bullying and cliques Employee retention is difficult in some roles and replacement is slow Salaries are not equitable and there is a lot of variance within a role The ability to work from home in other companies is not possible for most positions You have to perform duties of multiple roles Relaxed environment promotes laziness and eventually leads to an imbalance in workload on a team where some have to make up for the dead weight Some project managers don't understand the meaning of ownership and responsibility, there is a lot of dumping work on others

Pros

Some very nice people. They usually reimburse expenses quickly.

Cons

Where to begin? For the first two years I worked at Rho everything was great. My work life balance wasn’t that good, but it’s typical at a CRO. This summer our director disappeared and someone new took over. Since then there have been multiple rounds of layoffs. But the people getting laid off are long tenured employees. And they are being replaced with contractors that couldn’t care less about doing quality work. Now, work life balance is absolutely terrible. They require you submit your time cards every single day because they are so paranoid about overhead, which is equally annoying and concerning.
