Not the Rho I Use to Know

Pros

- There are some EXCELLENT managers that work at Rho, unfortunately, there are also some ABHORRENT ones - Lots of time off compared to other companies in the industry - Fair/Better than average benefits - Some of the hardest working and brightest people in the industry - The Federal side of the business is an incredible place to learn and grow - Great place to get your feet wet/learn about clinical trials

Cons

- Base salary is embarrassingly below industry standards - Job titles do not line up with industry standards - Job responsibilities/delineation of work between Statisticians and Programmers do not line up with industry standards - The commercial side of the business includes mind-numbingly pointless project management responsibilities that should be performed by a research associate. - The bonus structure (when there is a bonus given to employees) is completely contradictory to the ever so touted 'work-life-balance'

Pros

Great people, the culture is mostly what they make it out to be. I was hired when many other companies were laying people off, and I've been very grateful for that. To date they have not laid anyone off, though I have noticed people who were pushed out. Every year I've been here there has been a profit sharing bonus, sometimes its small and sometimes it's large, but it's nice to have the company give back to it's employees. They have company wide days of innovation where you can work on non-project work and collaborate with your colleagues. It's fun and productive. Generally there isn't micro-managing Generally there is flexibility and work-life balance, where you can work from home occasionally

Cons

Salary is way below industry standards, and within the company there is a huge disparity. Promotions and raises are incredibly hard to come by, they are not transparent and seem to be awarded to those who have some magical 'in' that the rest of us are excluded from. Rho also used to be more lenient with working from home flexibility, but recently have been insisting people come into the office. I had an agreement to work from home a certain number of days a week, and I was asked (told) to come in more frequently. Then when I needed to work from home a little extra for a couple of weeks due to a family issue, I was chewed out for that, where as that used to never be a problem. Due to the flat company structure, sometimes it is really hard to know who to go to for guidance and who you should be providing guidance to.

Pros

Great benefits, bonus, PTO/sick days Ability to work and think independently and creatively Work/life balance was pretty reasonable

Cons

When first hired a few years back, Rho was still a comparatively smaller company and had that family-friendly feel that they prided themselves on. (People were all very nice and welcoming, company as whole had a more laid-back feel, WFH on occasion was allowed, etc.) Now that they're growing, they've lost that feel and become too stuffy in my opinion. I understand with a larger company you need to set stricter guidelines, but it feels like they're trying too hard to become like a IQVIA or PPD and they've lost that welcoming feel that attracted (and kept) a lot of people to them previously. Now the structure feels very corporate and cliquey and I quickly lost that level of comfort discussing things with my supervisors as I once had. HR also has become a bit stricter and rigid over the years.
