Pros

Rice has a strong graduate student community. In general, a PhD program can be a lonely, miserable experience. The community at Rice elevates that to simply "miserable", which is comparatively impressive.

Cons

Like any school, the pay is miserable and the hours are soul-sucking. These will likely not be your happiest years. You can do amazing work here, but you need to remember that it's a stepping stone in the process. You will have awful fights with your advisor, etc. etc. etc. Just try to have as much fun as you can and move on.
