Pros

Rio Tinto is a great company from a corporate perspective. However things differ extremely depending on the mining site around the world.

Cons

Little consistency from site to site. Managers ultimately decide on what happens at each site and have seen little accountability to committing to a standard practice in the asset management space.

Pros

Great culture, promotion within, and excellent benefits including stock purchase program. Lots of programs to grow in your career. Many of my colleagues were able to transfer and work abroad to London, Australia and Mongolia.

Cons

Working in a finance function sometimes long hours, but that's goes for any job. Couldn't take vacation around Christmas and New Year's due to financial year-end and budgeting season kicked off mid-summer so tough to go on vacation in July and August. Sometimes the safety shares were over kill at the beginning of meetings.
